It's been a close to impossible year, all ways round, for most of us.

Burnsy, thinking of you in particular, with what you had to go through.

I could strangle all of you some of the time, and some of you all of the time.

But the bottom line is this:

I log on to WFC Forums, religiously, every day.

You are my Rifle Volunteer/Victoria/West Herts Social Club by proxy, all of you.

    A crushing disappointment, but hey...

    Merry Christmas

    SCG

Vicarage Road WFC is my Go To Happy Place form of escapism.
It's supposed to be enjoyable, watching and talking WFC.
Since the demise of the Wobby, this forum has been a main source of info.

I enjoy the expert and not so expert analysis of all things WFC on here.
I enjoy the many contra positions and views and passionate debates by many posters.

I can feel the support when some posters have a hard personal time with the genuine heartfelt empathy and sympathy that shines through to fellow Hornet fans we've probably never met and wouldn't recognise if we did.

I love the way a thread is taken off course and becomes a a cerebral discourse on the merits of different types of cheese etc etc

I must admit I sit back in wonder at how a wrong word or hastily written phrase is taken the wrong way and a full blown verbal war breaks out between fans.
And how that can end up with some posters being no-platformed or blocked by others who hold different views or feel attacked but still carry on attacking said others by proxy of third parties quoting their posts.

I enjoy the self deprecating humour of posters and how other teams fans take the tongue-in -cheek analysis of their clubs match preview to heart, swallow the bait and how it can become pure bile towards WFC on their own forum.

I enjoy some of the non football related threads and discussions. Hell, I even enjoy the daily quiz which I have zero chance of winning.

So a heartfelt thank you mods for all your efforts in keeping this forum for my beloved WFC so professionally run.

It's been a seriously very difficult year for me personally for various reasons.
And this forum I log into most days to help chill and destress.
I can't wait for 2020 to be over.

And a genuine thank you to all posters for making this forum what it is.
I wish all bedwetters and COGS and anyone in between a Very Happy Xmas and may we all have a great new year supporting the club we love.

Sorry to break it to you like this, but The Victoria has closed down. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse...

I did wonder if anyone had previously been volunteering to shoot people...

    I am better informed now.

There are people on here that annoy the crap out of me and some who talk utter tosh, me included, but we all love the club and in a year where just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the club and more importantly the country at least we still have this as some kind of release
I wish each and every one of you good health, a Merry Christmas and a far better 2021

Well said. Had some heated debates/arguments with a few on here but it's all purely football related.

I wish nothing but a Merry Christmas to you all, stay safe, and up the ****ing Hornets.

A defeat never seemed so bad after a few pints of Courage Directors, Leighton, if you were boozing in the Rifle in that era.

And is the Vic a goner, Lloyd, or Covid-shut?

Sahorn - I hope that you are on a better path now, or as soon as possible if not.

Drove past it the other evening - it was in complete darkness with a For Sale sign outside. I can't imagine anyone who buys it will keep it as a pub, so I'd say it's a goner

Cheers SCG, this too will pass, as they say.
    Thankyou.

Yes I was, I was there when it changed from Ind Coope to Courage, and yes, I did drink the Destructors as we used to call it.
That was when Pearl was running the pub. About 1968 until 1981, when I moved to Leighton Buzzard was my era.

Great post SCG. Thank you to everyone who has been such a good level for venting emotions especially this year. The world is in a totally effed up place atm but things will get better. One day we can all sit and moan and bitch at the players from the stands of the Vic again.

Everyone has a point of view and everything is valid in one person's mind which makes the debate a joy to read even if you don't feel like participating in every thread. Special thanks to the moderators and admin staff who keep this forum clutter free as well.

    Merry Xmas everyone. Xxxx

Ah, the legendary Pearl. As fearsome a landlady as you could ever wish to meet!!!

Our paths must have crossed many, many times Leighton. It was our family's local from the mid-70s to the mid-90s.
