I'm not keen on Gray at the moment but would start him tomorrow. If we have not scored by 40 minutes bring on Okaka. You know it makes sense. We need a win tomorrow to build confidence. If we can go to Citee give a reasonable account of ourselves and avoid a cricket score it will have been a reasonably successful Xmas. Happy New Year guys.
And Ken Furphy who said in relation to some booing of Rodney Green (another ex Kennel inmate) that fans should cheer even if he picked a cart horse as a no.9. Sadly, an all too accurate analogy in Green’s case.
"Manatleisure" is an anagram of "Salami Neuter". He's clearly trying to scupper the Slimani deal by backing Gray. I'm on to you.
There’s nothing so frustrating as an Almost Anagram. As in you’re the one spilling the beans on this and your forum name is almost an anagram of Leaker.
Something that irks me about these type of posts is that it makes it sound that the fans are hurling abuse at Gray during the matches. Every game I've been to the majority get behind Gray and the team. He's underperforming and as a result he's a terrible waste of money, I hope we have someone in to replace him in a months time. We all saw that Okaka changed the game against Leicester and it would be criminal not to start him tomorrow. Regardless of my view, I will support him during the match as he's a Watford player but after another poor performance he deserves all the criticism he recieves post match. I agree that personal comments and abuse is way over the line though.
He may well have done. But he wouldn't have expected to keep his job for very long after. That said, he did play Paul Atkinson in the FA Cup Final.
Rodney Green was our scoring machine. He was the greatest striker you've ever seen. A sensation, sensation - tell it to the nation! Rodney Green. Viva Rodney Green. Rodney Green. Viva Rodney Green. Viva, viva!
I agree with the principle of much of the original post, swapping him out after a scoring performance is not ideal and doesn't give him the chance to 'get going', so maybe with that he would start to perform a bit better and gain some confidence improving his touch and shooting abilities. Whatever his price tag it was not down to him but will grate with some (not me). However, the thing that I cannot get away from with Gray is that he appears to be quite an unpleasant individual from what we have heard of his past (maybe I believe what I read too much? But I do believe it). This coupled with the fact he is an ex scummer (endless previous posts from people who don't care, but it matters to me) will always make it difficult for me to take to the guy in any way shape or form. I never boo any Watford player and I won't boo him (out loud at least), while he is playing I will want him to do well for my team but I will also not be sad when he moves on. He hasn't been great for us so far but can obviously play as he has proven in the past, however, fan adoration is not always about talent.
Could make a similar case for Deeney, who has always needed a run of games at the beginning of a season before he's firing on all cylinders. Something he hasn't had this season, and that's as much his own fault as Silva's. But... he was excellent against Arseholenal and Chelsea. I can't remember a game when I thought the same about Gray.
He really isn’t a better choice than Deeney. Let’s also remember that, although he scored at Newcastle, he also had two horrendous misses. Having said that, I will support him while he is on the pitch in a Watford shirt. I just don’t think he’s very good.
Deeney really wasn’t good at Chelsea - their defence was all over the place and there for the taking - I thought he was crap.
I mean, neither of them score as they should at all, but Gray has 2 goals from open play this season whereas Deeney has none, and when Deeney's on the pitch he instantly makes our whole team play worse, whereas, whilst whether Gray does a lot himself to physically impact the game is open to question, the rest of the team function better as a result with him in it. Gray also has 3 times as many assists, which would lean towards the interpretation that he is better for the team/other players than Troy. No matter how bad you think Gray has been in any match, has there been a single worse performance from a Watford player this season (at the least) than Troy against Palace?
By the way my post was referring to strikers at new clubs needing the run of games for the goals the confidence the support etc. I should've made that clear. It wasn't meant to open up a Deeney v Gray debate.
LEAVE RODNEY GREEN ALONE Rodney was our supersub. Scored many a vital goal soaring above a packed visiting defence to nod home for a vital extra point (Well, at least 2 goals and 2 points).
Over 2 seasons 68-70, Rodney scored 8 goals for us, including in 3-0, 5-0 and two 4-0 wins. Although he did net in 2-1, 3-2 and two 1-0 wins as well. But only twice as a substitute - once in that 5-0 win at Priestfield where we did the knees-up on the pitch after the game forcing the players to walk around us back to the changing rooms. He also made 11 appearances as a substitute without scoring....
He really is dire, no technical ability and no brain In the build up to the miss, he actually runs the wrong way, into a crowded area and Pereyra still manages to pick him out with a superb pass, he then simply smashes it straight into the face of Fabianski, when either a small lob or even taking another touch with his right foot to drag it around the keeper's right side would have guaranteed a goal Cut our losses ASAP, this isn't poor form, its just a poor player
The sad thing is you know he’s smashing it as hard as he can because he’s thinking about what will look more dramatic when he runs off and shooses in front of the Rookery
Please read the opening post where I talk about a light switch and run of games. That is why he missed. Perfectly illustrated.
To think we have spunked £18.5M and wages on this deadbeat when the Pozzo's could have secured these two for less than that makes my mind hurt.
