Yeah, that's not good. Don't have crutches and a large knee brace for a minor injury.

Drop Cleverley in alongside Doucoure and put Pereyra in behind Gray.

I sincerely hope that you mean you hope it’s better than it looks?

Haha, piss-poor use of English! I meant that I hoped the use of a knee brace and crutches have given it the appearance of being a worse injury than it actually is. Think I should have typed "hope this looks worse than it is". Reading it back now, it doesn't really sound like I've got the players best interests at heart!

Seriously - will be absolutely gutted if he's out for a long time. The complete silence from the club so far and the player himself (when asked directly on Twitter by fans) leads me to believe its a bad one. If so, what a terrible shame:(

    Bad news.
    Get well soon NC.
Probably staying silent until swelling has gone down and they take a scan.

Exactly! Everything is precautionary until a proper diagnosis can be made but I guess he won't be back for at least 6-8 weeks minimum?
Even if he has only strained a ligament in his knee, whether ACL or MCL it will a couple of months out! Such a shame for the lad as he was getting better and better with every game he has played.
With the international break coming up as well as I'm sure he would have been called up again!
Hopefully a minor injury but even so get well soon NC!

Read on the Not 606 site of a fractured kneecap.
Again, all speculative at this stage.

If only fractured, it'll be 6 weeks-2 months. If he's completely broken it, he'll likely have dislocated his knee as well, which is 6 months and most of the season. It's not a year though. And my wife is a sports physio so thats informed, rather than just a guess.

I'm not surprised if it's a bad one. Seems to be a regular occurrence down the years with key players being injured for quite some time.

He's still pretty young which can make a massive difference for fracture healing rates ... as a kid I broke a toe and approx one week later I was running about as if it never happened. Even the doctors were amazed.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere and I've missed it, but what is the extent of Chalobah's injury? What's he done and how long will he be out for?

From my layman/idiots viewpoint his knee brace didnt look too excessive. I would have thought a break would have a cast no ?

Burnsy would you be so kind to ask your physio wife whats her verdict from looking at the pic. Ive got a lot of money riding on this season and Im getting nervous hes going to be out for 6 months.

I'll do my best to answer it - from my experience in healthcare, they can't plaster it if the swelling is still increasing for obvious reasons. The key bit of information we don't have is when the injury occured. I didn't see Silva's press conference on Thursday/Friday, so I don't know if there were any clues or hints about a significant change in the team at that point.

If they suspected a fracture of any kind, they can easily x-ray it regardless of swelling as that won't make a difference to the image. However - if they suspect soft tissue/connective tissue damage, then they'll prefer to wait for the swelling to subside/decrease before they do an MRI. If the x-ray showed a fracture, they'll have to wait on plastering if - as mentioned above - the swelling is too severe or is still increasing.

If it happened at the beginning of the week, then by Saturday you'd hope that they would have had the scans done by then to determine the severity of the injury. It if happened on Friday, then we're still in "waiting" territory for the swelling to settle, so would expect him to be scanned possibly today or tomorrow.

Such a shame, he's been in top form and will be a big loss if indeed he's out for some time. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.

you often hear of players leaving grounds with a knee brace and with crutches if there is suspicion of ligament or tissue damage, more as a precaution until a full MRI is carried out.

Hopefully it's the medical team being sensible and cautious prior to a full assessment and scan rather than anything long term

Honestly you'd be amazed at how quick fractures heal in kids .... I also broke several of MY various fingers at various times doing various things (fighting, goalkeeping, falling out of trees etc.), I reckon I must have been Hemel General's X ray department's best customer.

No I thought not ... maybe one day you'll read my book just to brighten up your dull, dull life.

Done. And her account is pretty much exactly what Jossy has said above. It’s basically all down to a timetable of when the injury occurred - if it had been dislocated, the operation would have been pretty urgent and there’s a pretty time critical window that should be no more than roughly 36-48hrs after the injury. It’s a different injury, but she referenced Luke Shaw’s ankle break at United as a guide - if he’d fractured it, it would have been a smaller layoff but the dislocation at the same time is the problem - because you can’t simply operate and put it back in place when the socket you are putting it back into is broken. Fingers crossed it isn’t that, but I tend to think they would have operated by the weekend had that been the case. But that’s working on the basis that the injury was done sometime early in the week or at least in the middle.

By NC stating that he’s had a ‘bad week’, I’m assuming it was done before Friday. The lack of info coming from the club, leads me to think they are awaiting swelling as per Jossy’s opinion above.

Hopefully we can get past WBA without him , not likely to get much from Arsenal and Chelsea games anyway so hopefully he'll be back for Stoke at home which is 5 weeks away.

Hmmm sounds like something I had at about his age but it was right at the end of the season so really wasn't a problem, uncomfortable but it didn't stop me from working on site and it had healed by the time we took up training again ... and fortunately no reoccurrence since .... Of course the demands on my body were nothing like those of Premier League footballer's.
