A close footballing relative of mine had both his kneecaps removed through football injuries in the 60's. The bad news is that he had to give up the game. The good news is that he won the Knobbly Knees contest at Butlins, four years running! Every cloud...
Talking about nasty injuries I was told once of a rugby player who dislocated his hip. In the urgency to pop his leg back in the medics caught one of his knackers. Rumour is he ruptured his vocal chords yelling in pain and had to have his hip re-dislocated to recover the now slightly squished gentleman's vegetable. Can't guarantee if it's true or not, but the thought of it makes me squeamish.
Exactly. Some players are simply injury prone. You could have put your house on Mark Wood not being able to play all the Ashes tests. I doubt he’ll play any.
I think Chalobah has more chance of bowling in The Ashes than Wood, and Wood has more chance of playing first 11 football for WFC this season.
A shame players no longer ‘double up’. A morning’s batting at Lord’s before the Cup Final in the afternoon. I’d back Holebas to a combative left arm seamer.
Yes. RD, can you name who I assume was the last person to play top flight footy in England and play for England test side ....?????
i can't believe his being labelled as injury prone. He broke his knee cap, a unique injury, it was always going to take time for his muscles and body to adapt and recover
Agree. But to come back the same after what has pretty much been two years out is, I would go as far as to say, unprecedented.
Is it? Van Nistelrooy and Callum Wilson have done their cruciate ligaments twice and came back just as good. Henrik Larsson broke his leg twice, and returned. Undoubtedly Chalobah will have work to do to get back but he’s clearly a talented player. Seems strange to right him off when he’s still so young.
I think the point was he has been out for 2 seasons. I can’t remember a player returning after such a long time out?
Surely we wouldn't loan him to a relegation rival ? If he's fit enough to play, he can play for us, covering injuries/suspensions etc. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...halobah-linked-norwich-city-sheffield-united/
If there is anything at all in the Eric Dier story, not inconceivable that we send Chalobah out to get regular football.
If he is going out on loan, it’s genuinely sad. At the start of his first season here, he looked really good, both physically and on the ball dictating play. We had an absolute gem on our hands at a really good price. He just doesn’t seem able to keep himself fit, which I know is a side-effect of a long-term spell out while the body readjusts to the rigors of professional football, but he hasn’t been fit enough for even a decent spell making substitute appearances since he returned.
It is so sad, as this guy was an absolute bargain buy for us and has so much genuine talent and quality. I really hope I am wrong, but it is beginning to look like Nathaniel is going to be another one of those super talented players that have had their careers ruined by injury. Lets hope and pray I am wrong and that it will be this season that he returns to his former self and dazzles the PL with his undoubted talents once more.
If going out on loan then club must think injury doubts remain . Would be sad if goes as potentially our best midfielder.
Even if the injury is healed it was pretty obvious that his head is wrecked beyond repair. We should have got rid of him months and months ago. Keeping a player for sentimental reasons is absurd, especially when he's on the wages chalobah is. And if you care to read back in this thread I told you so many months ago. When you've actually played the sport to a high standard you can easily recognise these things. When your only achievement in football is winning the world cup on FIFA while eating wotsits in your underpants - like 99% of you lot - your insight is not quite so searing.
Surely you have to be talented to win the online FIFA World Cup whilst eating Wotsits. One handed mate. ******* impressive.
Makes no sense to lend to a relegation rival. If he needs game time, loan him to a champ team. He’s either fit or he’s not. Don’t want him starring for NCFC or SUFC and keeping them up at our expense.
I think he can come back for us. But I think it’s very unlikely he can without regular football and we don’t offer him that. He’ll get the odd appearances and minutes here and there. If we want to have any hope of him being a regular for us, I think he has to go and get regular football. I’d like to see him at Leeds with Bielsa but Kalvin Phillips there is very good and they are similar.
Gracia said he can't play as he's recovering from the work he put into pre season. Not injured, recovering! Hard to see him ever being fit enough to play if he can't even handle pre season.
Fancy he'll benefit from a loan to Udinese, not a complete stranger to Italy, and he'll get minutes in the legs in a lower intensity league, after that, who knows?
What do we think of his performance yesterday? Great to see him get 90 minutes in the Prem, but in my opinion he was a bit of a passenger and his passing was poor. Physically looked ok. Certainly not a complete write-off as some have suggested. Time will tell but with a run of games, he may start getting back to his pre-injury levels. He obviously has Quique's support. Not sure what's happening with Quina?
I thought he did well. Won't have been easy for him lacking match fitness against one of the top teams. Bit of confidence and match sharpness and he'll be fine, just needs a run of games.
Does anyone get the impression that maybe we've all built him during his injury and he's not actually as good as we thought he was? He was great as a teenager but multiple loan spells may indicate that it was a one-off with us because he doesn't seem to have reached that level anywhere else. I'm prepared to give him every chance to prove me wrong, he's had a really nasty injury. He should be match fit now but whenever I've seen him, even in cup games, he's very sloppy and ponderous on the ball. Just interested to hear if anyone else thinks the start of the Silva season raised our expectations of him? He did play well in those first few games but I don't remember him being better than Doucoure or Cleverley.
He wasn't even that bad today, people behind me were screaming to get him off. He started slow but grew into the game. Showed some neat touches, started to get stuck in and displayed his top notch schooling a few times I thought. I can't imagine all the things going on in his brain right now, the desire to do well having been out so long, concerns about the injury, worries about whether he's the same player, maybe he can't do things he used to be able to and shaking off all the rust. Considering all that, there's hope once he's got 15-20 consecutive games under his belt. There's a quality player in there somewhere.
Let's hope so. Just seems to be well off the pace and struggled to get around the pitch tonight. Loses a lot of 50/50s as well so I think Capoue will be back in for him on Friday.
Catch 22 I think. He needs a run of games to see if he can return to the level he had pre injury. However the team need results and cannot afford to let him get up to speed. Given the amount of injuries we have,we don't have too many options at present.
