Anyone remember losing 0-1 at home to Crewe? Crap game, crap weather and Dean Ashton scored late on. Think it was under Lewington. Absolutely dreadful and the worst game I've ever seen at Watford.

I remember sitting in the rookery when it happened. He celebrated in the South-West Corner and then I saw a plastic bottle go flying at him and the perpetrator getting bundled out of the ground. Said perp then began walking round Watford in a Newcastle shirt for a while after that.

I know the guy's name as I saw him on facebook a few times. But I've never seen him in person since that moment. All I know is he was banned from the Vic for 3 years

    Just thought of another one.

Hull away in 78/9 where we lost 4-0 - that was dire.

We did get revenge though by beating them 4-0 in the last match of the season to pip Swansea to the title in front of over 26,000 fans at The Vic.

Watford 0 Millwall 1 in 1997 sticks out for some reason- we weren't particularly dreadful but just never looked like winning the game against a very average Millwall side.

The 3-0 defeat to Yeovil was miserable.

For the sheer weight of utter disappointment though it will always be the play-off final VS Palace- for that season to end in the way it did was devastating- a really nervous, lackluster performance when it mattered the most followed by the worst journey home I've ever experienced.

Bloody hell, was that game dire.

The single good thing about that result was that the media was too busy savaging Egil "Wellington" Olsen's long ball tactics to lay into us.

    1. Worst Watford game ever was Tue 29 Apr 1975 v Walsall at home. Last game of the season in the 3rd division. A win sees us stay up after a dire season. A draw and we're in with a chance, but we really need the win. We lost 3-2. I can't remember exactly how the scoring went, but I think at one stage we were winning, but the players couldn't be bothered. You could tell. Win, lose, draw - it was all the same to them. Age 13 and put me in a depression for the whole summer.

    2. Sat 8 Jan 1977 - 3-2 defeat in the cup to Northwich Victoria mentioned above. Pure embarrassment.

    3. Sat 1 Nov 1986 - 0-0 draw away at Chelsea. Boring, boring, boring dull game. Stood on the big open terrace at Stamford Bridge while it pished down with rain for the whole match. Completely drenched like a drowned rat at full time and then they kept us in for an hour after the final whistle to get even wetter and colder. That was our loudest song "LET US OUT! LET US OUT!"

All of the above - and
1 There was a home defeat to Norwich - some time in the eighties - the deluge that the match was played in just added to the misery on the open terrace
2 Too many defeats to L****, but in particular having to watch Jake Findlay celebrate a 93rd minute Kirk Stephen's goal ruined that Christmas.
3 0-5 at Coventry in the League Cup
4 Normal time in the FA Cup replay with Torquay (colder than Scarborough)

1/ Norwich at home April 1972. It was the last game of the season. We were relegated having amassed 19 points in the whole season and won once at home since November-they were going up to Div1 and they brought around 15,000 fans in a crowd of 22,000. I had never seen so many away fans-they were everywhere and we were penned in a small section of the Rookery with some Arsenal who had turned up to wish Norwich "all the best "

2/ Walsall Home April 1975. The game that saw us relegated to Div 4 losing 3-2 in front of our biggest crowd of the season 9.5k

3/ L*T*N Home Boxing Day 1979. That last minute winner for them-

4/ Spurs Semi Final at Villa Park. April 1987. GT got very few things wrong but playing Plumley in goal was one of them. GT left at end of season

5/ April 88. Wimbledon Away FA Q-F. Surely we would go through being 1-0 up at half time and them down to 10 men. No -we lost and missed playing L*T*N in the semi at White Hart Lane

6/ Blackburn Away December 92 League Cup 4th round. Having beaten Leeds previously- the 13th greatest win according to Lionel's book- I drove up there with a car full on that Wednesday night. Arrived in time for kick off-we lost 6-1. Got back in the car and drove home again

    7/ Fulham Away Boxing Day 2000. So cold-lost 5-0

8/ Sheff W away League Cup 4th round December 2001. Vialli in charge-lost 4-0-minibus got a flat tyre on M1 on way back in torrential rain and had to change the front offside as traffic zoomed past

9/ Chelsea Away Fa Cup replay Jan 04. The ticket fiasco caused by Simpson/Ashton meant we had to sit up in the gods with Chelsea. Lost 4-0

10/ WBA home November 07. 0-3 to the football team. Humiliating

    Reserves

    (i) Chelsea FA cup Semi 1970. Despite losing 5-1 this was our shot at the big time so whilst my dad and I left feeling fed up looking back on it now it was a great experience
(ii) Play off Final 2013. Losing to Palace I just felt numb because the team never played-maybe taking my dad in the Bobby Moore hospitality for probably his last game of seeing us live, numbed the pain

so bar these two the above 10 I still feel bad about

a game versus preston under lewington. i think simpson delivered a 'rousing' pre-game on-pitch battlecry but somehow the game finished 0-0 with 0 shots from either side

I'm of the post Taylor generation, so not that many to choose from because all the bad games were preceded by low expectations. It was very hard to be disappointed.

Play-off final two years ago. So much expectation. So much hope. So much potential. An awful slog from start to finish and a rotten atmosphere in the stands. I think I was miserable for weeks after that.

In terms of expectation/reality, it was the absolute opposite to the Cardiff final.

Shrewsbury, FA cup late 80's earlu 90's
They were bottom of the old 4th division we were top half for division 2

Stuffed 4 - 1 and to be honest got away with it. COuld easily have been 5 6 or 7

Also remember the Scunny game - fans getting in a scuffle over throwing snowballs into the family area.

Remember a 0-0 v Pompy on boxing day where neither team had a shot

I remember a midweek cup game away to Sheffield Wednesday. We lost 4 nil in a horrendous downpour. Car trouble on the way back didn't help either. Utterly depressing day.

I remember this. It sticks in the mind because a **** I used to work with and have a mutual hate for waltzed in wearing a Crewe shirt after that. Thankfully he was fat and ugly so the result didn't change that.

Two games stick out from the Taylor PL season, Sheffield Weds and Coventry at home. We won both 1-0 but I remember laughing at how truly awful the football was.

The only funny thing was in the Coventry game when we did some ludicrous half time giveaway of prizes to randoms on the pitch. The 'legend' Richard Short stupidly asked some kid to explain how excited he was at winning a 'day out' at a Championship game the next season. Cue laughs and mocking from the Coventry fans and heads in hands from the home support.

  18. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

This was a Quarter Final I believe and Sheffield Weds were terrible at the time. Vialli didn't bother turning up for the game if I recall and Ray Wilkins picked the side and we were ****ing disgraceful.

Then the next day, the website lauded pictures of the team enjoying fun and high jinks with Vialli in a chefs hat serving Christmas lunch.

Makes me angry to this day.

My first ever game was a 1-0 loss at home to Crewe, albeit a different one towards the end of 96/97 season.

As for worse games, there were quite a few in our 2007/08 implosion, one that sticks in my mind is 4-2 loss at home QPR.

wolves boxing day, only because i had such high expectations, and it was freezing, and it was p!ssing down, and i had to drive to shrewsbury straight after, and my Fry Days chips were cold by the time i got to my car...

It's just so difficult to name just ten but...

Any time we've lost to Palace, Play Off Final and the 3-1 defeat under Malky (I had their We Love You in my song all ****ing week) come to mind straight away

Losing 1-0 to Plymouth under Aidy (the bangura appeal game I think?)

Losing to Scunny under Aidy towards the end of the season and there was a fight in the Rookery. (also the 2-0 defeat by them in October 2010 was shocking)

QPR beating us at the Vic to go up.

3-0 defeat by WBA that changed everything that season under Aidy.

1-0 defeat to Sheffield Utd in the Prem when Webber was a mile offside and Chris Powell got sent off and kicked the ball out the ground

3-0 defeat to Barnsley, midweek after they'd knocked both Chelsea and Liverpool out the cup, remember singing 'THEY DESERVE THE FA CUP'

Watford 2-4 QPR, December 2007, first game I left early, they went 4-1 up with 10 to go and on my way out ****tu scored a consolation goal.

Losing 3-0 to Leicester last season, not just the game but got up super early to travel from Chichester and the trains were a ****ing nightmare, only for that pile of crap.

Last season losing 3-0 at home to Yeovil was one of the most disappointing games I have been to

Home to Millwall and losing 4-0 in I think 1971/2 with the millwall fans celebrating in Vicarage Road afterwards was disappointing.

Any supporters from the 70's onwards will be complaining to the local standards office that this is titled worse 10, because there have been too many dire games over the years to mention (Im afraid)

This one. And only because it lasted for 120 minutes. I was even annoyed that it went to penalties because I really wanted to go home.

Luton 0 - 0 Watford at the skip that is Kenilworth Road, mid 90s when we were in what is now League 1. It was at the time when Luton banned all away fans so I had to suffer the double indignity of paying to become a member of LTFC to see the match (I live close-ish to the town) and then sitting in the main 'stand' surrounded by their fans.

My worries about giving the game away and getting myself chucked out / beaten up were totally unfounded as both teams served up a turgid excuse for a football match, fully devoid of any excitement whatsoever. The most interesting thing to do was count the number of stanshions, poles etc blocking the view between me and the pitch. 17 I seem to remember!

The 0-4 a few years later in 1997 more than made up for it though!
