Sorry afanof - missed that one. I must admit I contradict myself in different threads on this topic. It is only because I am torn. On one side I really really don't want us to spend money we don't have. On the other hand, I believe that the way forward for us is to sign young talents and developing them. And McGinn and Buckley are just the types of players we should go for. I have to trust the board (reluctantly) to decide if it is good business to bring them in on borrowed money or not. As a fan you never know the full story but it is difficult to trust the board when the previous two both have turned out to be canuting canuts.
Quite agree about clubs having to spend within their means but then trouble is some clubs don't so fans of teams that don't spend much start accussing the board of "lacking ambition" as some were before Aidy and co decided to get the cheque book out... Even now on the WO you have a couple saying "why aren't we spending bit" or "who cares about a bit of debt"..makes you wonder if they noted we were days away from administration.
I note from the Rochdale boards that Hull have offered £250k for their 19 yr old centre back Dawson. Spurs were apparantly showing a lot of interest in him (and they already have a c/b called Dawson). Very good prospect I hear, but obviously unproven at a higher level. I know that opinion is divided as to how we spend money, but my personal view is that he is the sort of player that we should be looking at as we cannot afford a fully proven centre back for a relatively low amount. I wonder if our scouts noticed him when watching Buckley.
Agreed, he could be a potentially new Williamson in terms of ability. Lower league defenders can work out quite often. Example, Williamson played well here, Demerit has been good for us overall.
