22yr old GK. Plays for Flamengo. Apparently had a breakout season last season and AC Milan and Ajax hold an interest. Readying a €6m offer according to this. https://twitter.com/sourubronegrooo/status/1395747162785472517?s=21
Probably headed for Udinese. They’ve been reportedly scouring South America for a young GK to replace Musso who will likely leave for £25m+ to a big club this summer.
Well if this guy is an upgrade (and I have no idea if he is) then it's worthwhile. I like Bachmann and Foster but I'm not convinced either of them are among the top 20 GKs playing in England. By your logic the fact that we have Pedro, Deeney, Gray, Perica, Cucho (and Fletcher too soon enough) should mean that signing a quality starting CF isn't necessary.
£6m could be better spent elsewhere than on a keeper. I have some concerns about Bachmann / Foster but I have far greater concerns about our options at striker, left wing and left back.
Gomes recommended him? Be cover I suspect if this is true. Be a slap in the face for Bachmann if we are after a new first choice goalie unless they are proven top quality.
Apparently he made some big mistakes when given a chance in the first team, has been demoted to 3rd choice keeper for Flamengo.. Flamengo manager is Rogerio Ceni a very good keeper in his day. So, I'd expect him to be a fairly good judge of ability.
That’s a lot of money and hopefully this is rubbish. Want a promising young goalie? Give Dahlberg a chance.
You’ve listed our many keepers - the vast majority of whom are nowhere near good enough for the PL and the best of whom may not be good enough either - and then said sarcastically “we’re a bit light on keepers,” suggesting that this move wouldn’t be worthwhile. I think that’s a preposterous perspective - if the guy is good enough then great. So I illustrated that by listing our strikers and then making a similar claim.
A very similar profile of player, seemingly. A young, not starting keeper at a big South American club.
Pozzo spending £6m on an unproven young goalkeeper is surely one of the most unlikely things that could probably happen, not just in football but in life generally?
Closer to £5m, but yeah, Bachmann may be untested and Foster is old, but they're both competent enough and I don't think they'd be massively exposed in the Prem. It's not that much, but I'd be surprised if we spent much more on any single player this summer, there are areas we need to upgrade on more
Errors playing for the reserves: Mistake in important first team game. Was chatting to a Palmieras fan in work about him and he sent me those videos Obviously, everyone makes mistakes and player can learn and improve from them. Don't want to dismiss the guy completely having not seen him play - but not rated at all by my work colleague..
If we're looking to ruin the career of a young keeper then forget this guy and just focus all our efforts on keeping Dahlberg out on endless loans.
I know these clips usually show the best of a player......and this is no exception. These are his best moments.
Maybe Foster is off. Even if he isn't we can't afford to stand still in picking up talent. The last one we stole from under the noses of Ajax worked out well. As for young keepers making mistakes David James made some howlers for us. Worked out ok for him.
Quite so it seems unlikely or he would be first choice which seems a little harsh on Bachmann as I say (or Foster)
Sometimes I fail to keep up with our transfer policy. It looks there are two squads. Players for Watford’s first team, including the U23 team. And players we buy under the Watford banner as a English premier league team, but with the intention of loaning them out and selling on at a profit. If they play for Watford’s first team, that’s just a happy coincidence.
I'd add right back, box to box midfield and Attacking midfield to that list. It's pretty much the last position we need to spend money on
Saw the title of the thread and mind immediately went to Hugo Sanchez and had visions of us being linked to some sort of Latino overhead kick and dead ball maestro. Can't imagine my disappointment when I found out he's a goalkeeper. It's a no from me.
Rossi has bags of ability and showed it when given the opportunity at Boca and Argentina u20 and latterly with Lanus. He is not getting past Andrada and then there is also the younger Roffo who is also pretty capable. Boca seem to have this focus on older players whereas River are focusing on youth. Federico Girotti had a star turn in the superclassico for instance whenever he started.
I really don't think a GK is a priority, IMO we could do OK in the PL with the keepers we have already so we should not spend our supposedly meagre funds where we don't really need too. The bulk of the team may not be perfect but I reckon we could probably just about survive with what we have right now, with maybe a tweak or two. However we all know that the one place we really do need to strengthen... We need a quality striker or preferably two!!! And sadly if that does not happen we would probably be doomed to go straight back down
Of course we do but if good opportunities arise elsewhere we can't afford to stand still. What if Foster decides he's off?
