Villa or Derby?

The minute any EPL club outside the top six starts to think like that they're f***ed - see Stoke, Swansea, Blackburn etc etc etc

Sharp has had 3 spells for Sheff Utd, 3 spells for Doncaster & played for Rushden & Diamonds when we had Lewington.

The least sexy football cv imaginable.

Makes Glenn Murray look like CR7.

Yes. If he doesn't go to spurs or another top 6, he will go to the next tier of large safe prem clubs, Everton, Leicester or WHU.

4 years and no real relegation worries but still loads of miserable comments at each season end about under-performance etc.
I can't wait for the meltdown on the forum the first season we have a genuine relegation battle on our hands and are bottom 3 in Oct/Nov. It will be carnage :). Maybe next season ?

Villa. I think they're good enough to finish 17th so we can get rid of Burnley once and for all.

Always quite liked Villa for some reason so I'll go for them although not that fussed. We will always be looking over our shoulder and shouldn't get complacent no matter how long we stay in this league. Plenty of teams have had spells in the Premier League and some top 10 finishes only to take their eye off the ball and go down, West Brom and Stoke. The weaker the teams that come up the better in my view and the three coming up this year do look as though they may struggle. We should certainly not be worrying about Billy Sharp!!

Villa, if only to put a lid on the silly Grealish hype when he inevitably has a completely ineffectual season.

GT would have wanted Villa so we should honour that. Given he is God it is clearly already written.

Opinion piece presented as fact? Could be argued that we are a top 10 team whose season of success finally caught up with them and also had distractions of a Cup Final.

Fulham, last year, were poster boys of what you get if you just throw money at it with no plan. Each year we have improved, quietly, without making any headline buys. No reason to think this cannot continue and whilst we may lose 2-3 players we are gradually changing our team rather than completely rebuilding it.

However, any team outside the top 6, and even Man United if they carry on from this season(!), will always be prone to relegation. It gets tougher each and every year as more and more ambitious clubs come up from the Championship. I’d argue we have the best owners for a club of our size and their experience in this game is the key, not necessarily the coach, even though Javi has done a great job.

I will always want teams coming up who I think will struggle. Much as I dislike Leeds, this was as much of a reason to be happy about last night than anything. Respect to Derby, who may do very well if they go up, but Leeds will be a tough team when they inevitably get promoted eventually. Hopefully not in the near future.

PS. Would take a Leeds promotion over L*t*n any day of the week obviously!

    We don’t have a bottom 7 squad.

The fear is however that we DO have a bottom 7 or lower defence. A midtable-ish strikeforce and best midfield outside the Top 6 IMO. Maybe even better than a couple of teams in the Top 6. But all-in-all that balances out roughly to where we are.

The danger is that the players we have who will be coveted by other clubs are midfielders. And they would be hard to replace and that would have an obvious impact on the overall quality of the squad.

We’ve done well this season because for 60/70% of the season, Gracia has got a tune out of a poor defensive unit. But it is ageing and the CB’s are low on quality. That must be addressed or I very much doubt we can replicate this season next year.

Just my opinion of course. Apart from Masina, Navarro and Sema being worse than players coming up!

I agree we have improved overall in terms of squad, but in my opinion our centre back options are actually worse than the first season up, and arguably the full backs.

Younger versions of Prodl, Britos, Holebas, Cathcart plus Ake and Nyom.

Verses older Holebas and Cathcart, obsolete Prodl and Britos plus Kabasele, Marriappa, Kiko Janmaat and Masina.

Norwich will surprise a few I think. Ive told you all before I am giving Delia lots of advice in terms of how to survive in the premier league and they are going to be/ are already investing in the right areas. They have a fantastic striker in Pukki
Shef Utd must be one of the favourites to go down.
Boring Villa may have just enough to stay up. Derby will attack and go down.

So Derby for me as that almost guarantees 2 of the 3 relegation places.

For those of you doubting my ITK knowledge, watch as Norwich sign Joe Hart from Burnley. Ill link back to this post when they do. And wave to you all from the Directors box at Carrow Road, Ill wear a yellow shirt so Im easy to spot

I certainly think it’s fair to say that our defensive unit, especially in the CB department, needs improving but I can’t help but feel that even if we had one decent defender who could organise at the back we’d have conceded far fewer. I’m not suggesting what we have are in any way exceptional but we seem to lose our way far too easily and do need a captain in that area.

Derby. Their squad is made up of ancient past it players who can't hack it in the prem (Cole, Johnson, Huddlestone, Curtis Davies, Nugent, Carson) or young loanees that they might not get back or might not be able to make the step up if they do get them back (Wilson, Tomori, Mount). Will basically need a whole new squad to stand a chance and even then the odds are stacked against them.

Derby. Easy question. Villa have got Captain Leader Leg-end and Grealish. Both unlikable characters. Don't mind Frank Lampard's Derby. Plus they won't be able to spend stupid money in the summer (presumably).

I’d prefer Derby, though I wouldn’t mind if Villa went up next season, as the PL seems a bit weird without them. But Derby just seem a more interesting and likeable club - Villa are probably the least inspiring of the big clubs, apart from a couple of boring or one-sided FA Cup finals, they’ve done very little of note between God being their manager and getting relegated - the definition of a grey, middling club whose location is pretty apt. Credit to them though, they’ve been on a phenomenal run and scoring for fun, after their play-off hopes looked all but over not so long ago.

On a related note, who do people think will go down? At the moment, I can’t see past Bournemouth, Burnley and Derby if they go up, or maybe Sheff Utd if Villa go up (would have gone for Brighton in place of Burnley in the first list, and in place of Sheffield Utd in the second if they hadn’t sacked Hughton). Muff in particular look to be in real trouble, they’ve been on a terrible run since October, haven’t strengthened their defence at all, and their signings haven’t had the impact that it seemed they would during their bright start. I can’t see any surprise team in the top half dropping down, and the other teams seem secure thanks to the managers they’ve got/replaced.

Either would be alright with me, they’re both within a short train journey for me so a decent and cheap away game next season. If I was having money on it I’d go with Villa.

Frank Lampard 's Derby might not be for much longer as the papers are saying if Sarri left Frank would be lined up for the Chelsea job .

Basically because with the transfer ban due to kick in they want someone who is keen to bring through Youth players.

Hilarious Derby let him of all players sneak in to score that goal.

Prince William seemed to enjoy himself - and why was he wearing a cap?

For the sunlight or to hide his bald patch!

Can telly Granny and the kids what a great day he had at Wembley as a fan rather than official capacity.

I don't suppose had we beaten Palace in 2013 the media would have been gushing with praise - probably the opposite!

Will almost certainly be a difficult season for Villa next year, would need some upgrades on this squad without even considering the loan players to go back to their parent clubs. Much better chance of staying up than Derby would have had mind you. As I've said, I've been impressed by Norwich this year, they might do well, Sheffield United will probably struggle unless they pull some rabbits out of the hat. Difficult to predict anyone else as it's pretty compact, the bottom half mainly consists of teams who would just need one or two things to go there way (or indeed against them) in terms of bringing in new players/managers to really change their season
