What does it mean when people say an iPhone 'just works' ?

I'm sure it does & have heard this phrase used quite a bit over the years, but surely Android users can say that too, because they both do exactly the same thing?

What is so different about iPhone that makes people say this?

 

Because you're reading it wrong. It "just works" in the sense that it "just barely passes muster, which is enough to justify the £900 price tag because it's a must have for certain people"

 

Uniform setup, no manufacturer deviation, no vendor bloatware*.

I can only assume you haven't seen the wide variety of Android devices available from different vendors. Out of the box, they're significantly different from each other.

* Not the same thing as OS bloatware, which pretty much all the OSes have.

Second rate reporting, pop up ads & gimmicks all over the place that take up half the screen. Asks for Cookie permission on each page you browse even if you accepted them on the previous page. No thanks.

Yes. Barely go on there these days. Still have no news and stretch each interview into half a dozen "articles". The begging messages to turn off your adblocker so that all their adverts and irritating videos can squeeze out what you're trying to read and slow the whole experience down. It's just rubbish and pointless now.

 

What about when you are eating a choc ice and a big bit of the chocolate falls off onto the floor?

It's a clever way of saying even stupid people can use them. Just watch any reality show to see what the f*ckwits on there use. Every time it's an iphone.

 

You're almost making it sound like user-friendliness is a bad thing.

Have you used iTunes lately? Must be the most un-user friendly app out there.

 

Completely agree. It's an awful piece of software and I've been saying so for years!

Apparently it's better on Macs than Windows but that's anecdotal. I've never seen the Mac version.

Luckily you don't have to use iTunes to use an iOS device, which gives me one less thing to worry about.

 

I used to quite enjoy iTunes 10 years or so ago. It’s an unattractive, difficult to use nightmare now.

Why do the updates take 12 hours or so to download? itunes is like a chuffing virus. My old dad lost all his photos taken on his ipad when he locked himself out of his account and had never connected with itunes.

Got an ipod. Got some mp3s you want to put on it? Simple. Hang on. You MUST log in first, then sync your entire catalog, then MUST delete all files if you added them with another account on a different PC. **** off Apple.

 

Spent the day in London today which we like to do as a family now and again, just exploring random parts and wanted to visit the V&A again. Ended up in Trafalgar Square for some people watching and was appalled to see people trawling around in the fountains picking up the change thrown in. These weren't official "coin collectors" but proper nasty little scroats. Every visitor to the square was watching them. What a great impression our Capital gives to tourists.

 

If it's chocolate chip.

 

Hate is;

Dunking your chocolate chip cookie, for just that bit too long in your freshly made builders tea & it drops off unexpectedly ending up like sludge, whilst having totally f*rked up your brew at the same time.

We've all been there, so don't act like you don't know.

 

I’ve started working in London recently so the list is endless.

One that for some reason really peeves me is people who as soon as they feel the train start to slow down stand up and move closer to the door, even though it’s not due to stop for a good 5 minutes. They probably save themselves a couple of seconds but look like a pratt for 5 minutes.

Saving 30 seconds by skipping the pee that you know you really need when you leave work as "you'll be home in 35 mins".
Then getting stuck in a traffic jam.

Google street view. Again, it’s something I feel worked better before. Yellow fella seems to end up a long way from where he is dropped.

Same with Gmail. When something works well leave it alone. Takes longer and longer to load the front page on there now.
