Surely it's just the press getting us mixed up with another team beginning with W. In this case it's Wycombe though not Wolves.

I am getting moist at the prospect of Gray and Vokes up front for us next year. Other sides will probably claim we have an unfair advantage.

SD surely has some massive dirt on the Pozzos and as a result we have to pay way over the odds for one of their **** players once every season.

I prefer the Urban Dictionary definition myself - an irritating self centered wench with delusions of grandeur. Often plays instrument... poorly. Known to grow horns and shoot flames from her eyeballs whilst chasing the innocent with her trident.

Sounds like just what we need up front...

Fine if he's third choice but not as our top striker or Deeney replacement

We already have three 3rd choice strikers.

Some of the words you are thinking of are often described as 'anglo-saxon' or medieval actually entered the English vocabulary much later than usually supposed. It is believed the worst are derived from Low Dutch and came into the lexicon from England's increasing reliance on the sea and through contact with sailors and pirates in the 17th Century. Swearing, cursing and blaspheming were seen as venal sins in regular Christian societies so the proliferation of these harsh sounding expletives is largely a mid 20th Century phenomenon as both Britain and America became more secular in their outlook. Their use is perfectly acceptable of course in connection with transfer rumours regarding Burnley strikers.

    Good stuff.

However, Gropecuntlane was the name of an English street c1230, according to the Oxfofd English Dictionary, and that most notorios of four letter words at least seems to come from old English.

He can't possibly be any worse than Deeney has been for the past two years (and statistics seem to back that up). If I watch Deeney start another game I might just cry.

Optima don't as yet measure 'nuisance factor' so Deeney misses out.

If we recruit a striker on that basis, is there a striker that we shouldn't buy?

Or possibly from the the Old Norse word of the same meaning - 'kunta'.

I remember reading fairly recently that the UK Government rejected a petition to reinstate all the former Gropecuntlanes in England - it was apparently a common street name across the country, one that reflected the trade that was carried on there.

He's not even that bad, not a starting striker yes but if he's coming off the bench why not?

The one in Gerrards Cross is actually Gropecunt Crescent.

Only on Wfcforums would a discussion on a journeyman striker morph into a discourse on the derivation of obscene street names.

    Long may it continue.

    I'm off.

A better option than Sinclair but no better than TD & SO. If he's expected to start on the bench, fine but until we sign someone better, that leaves Okaka or Richarlison as the main striker. Many on here were expecting that the replacement would be an upgrade. If he was the sole striker signing that would be pretty disappointing.

I bet they have a creative pronunciation for that in GX, along the Hyacinth Bucket/Bouquet lines. Far too vulgar otherwise.

Because he isn't better than what we have and signing him would allude to a pretty disappointing style of football to come. Perhaps he wouldn't be the worst option in the world as a player to come off the bench with 10/15 to go when losing - but that would indicate 2 things: We don't have the players who chuck it into the box in that scenario, Burnley do. And finally that he would be happy to come to us when we aren't offering him a change to his circumstances. Thats what he does at Burnley so why would he swap?

There are quite a few reasons why signing him would make no sense at all.

Sluff was gifted to the Royal County of Berkshire quite a few years ago, I’m afraid.

Although, to channel IBB, the Bucks county table tennis championships were held there for several years after secession.

It must grate on the denizens of GX to have a SL postcode and a Slough dialling code.

Sadly this Burnley reserve is one of the few players with "striker" on their CV who isn't an upgrade. Presumably no place for him even on the Burnley bench after they bring Rodriguez in.
