There will players for certain games. Like how Prodl was dropped because we needed more pace. Prodl is our best centre-back but he lacks the pace that Kaboul and Britos has. They're not fast defenders, but they're faster. Prodl would have had to have the game of his life to be in the right positioning every time to make sure he wasn't chasing Mane, Salah etc. Also, Holebas and Janmaat/Femenia would have needed to have the game of their lives.

Same goes for Cleverley. There will be games where we need a work-horse over flair. When we need to grind, Cleverely will be great in the midfield with Chalobah and Doucoure with Pererya on the wing. When we need more flair and creativity, we will need Pererya in the centre and Richarlison on the wing.

We have 37 games to play. And no single opponent is the same and different approach will be needed for each team and certain players will be better suited. I don't think many players have a starting spot in this team and that Silva will rotate as per opponent and approach.

We need a player like Cleverley. He will be the forgotten man by fans such as Mahon, Eustace etc. he won't get the glory, but he'll help the team grind out results and keep pushing until the last minute.

I would sign up just to wind them up a bit but the registration process is too long winded and I'll have found something else to amuse myself by this evening.

Wow, they are genuinely talking about why they didn't put in a £80 mill bid for Dijk.

Absolutely. I think our priority should be to invest as much as we can in a really quick and athletic centre-back to partner Prodl, and leave a new keeper and left back cover for another day unless we get good money for Capoue.

It used to be said (in some cases unfairly) that women don't understand the offside law. It's now crystal clear that nobody does. Including me.

One thing I found on their board was this and it reminds me of quite a few Hull goals from Silva's tenure. If our lads always take up such sensible positionsm I am confident we are facing a glut of goad chances unlike under Mazzarri.

I'm ot blaming Richarlison for taking the wrong option, at least it's one to be worked on

Makes a hell of a difference when your tactic isn't "lump it to Deeney" ignoring the fact that he has 2 defenders on him and never letting the the midfielders get inside the box on the counter. The team is gonna knackered by xmas, also they'll be fit as **** with the amount of ground they're gonna cover.

Amazingly if he had pulled it back there's a high chance Britos would've been penalised ...

    it's a funny old game

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the Liverpool fans? Couldn't believe how quiet they were. Only sung when they scored. For a club steeped in football history they were as bad as Arsenal fans. Mind you most of their fans probably weren't from Liverpool anyway.

This should be pinned up for kids to see how not defend.

There must be 1 defender of 8 in that picture, in the correct position.

The first sentence is complete tripe "there was so much pressure on Huddersfield going to Sellhurst park..." Er have I missed something? It was a great win for them, but fail to understand how they were under any pressure going to Palace on the first game of the season.

Eh? the ball hit the crossbar before Britos even touched it making it impossible for him to be offside except in the build up. In the old days before phases he could have been but not any more ... but even then it was an opposition player that knocked it forwards so no, not a chance.

Nice to see Cleverley get some recognition in that article. I agree that he shouldn't always be our first choice CAM, but like him or not, it was his movement that created our second goal.

He got a lot of stick on the shoutbox but players like Cleverley will be huge this season. He is the sort of player who makes it difficult for other teams to play, and has the workrate to help close out games.

Cleverley's a great player who'd walk into any of our lower league rival's teams.

Anyone who says different probably can't even spell his name roight.

I agree about it not being offside - but if your view was predicated by the first part of your reply (that he could not be offside as it is impossible under the new rules unless you touch it) then you are off your head - had he been infront of the ball and it had not come off Matip - he would have been offside as he was standing right on the keepers toes!

Why don't we ask Klopps mini me what he thought of the offside?

The media should be all over this, it's hilarious. Instead all they do is harp on about how crap Liverpool's defence must be if Watford can score 3 goals against them.

They were leaning on each other trying to occupy the same spot and it's not a non contact sport. Personally if I was reffing I'd probably have given a foul but that's besides the point, the ref obviously didn't see enough to give it.

So then the possible offside is somewhat taken from his hands as it becomes the lino's responsibility and even if he sees Britos in an offside position he can't give it without first ascertaining whether he is active or not. From memory the three criteria are; did he block the keepers path? did he block the keepers view? and did he play, attempt to play or make a move for the ball to put the keeper off i.e. a feint or dummy? The first two obviously not as Minolet saw it all the way and got to it first and the last? well the ball never reached Britos. As we agree once the keeper touched the ball onto the bar he was definitely onside.

The only question we should be asking is 'was Minolet fouled?' (yes, Britos was holding his arm)
