So, apparently the FA, the Premier League and all of its members are set to discuss potentially closing the transfer window before the first league game for next season. Now, being as this will only apply to this country, in my opinion this could be a truly disastrous change and leave English clubs in a very awkward position whilst we wait for the window to close everywhere else. Should someone come knocking from another country for one of your players and should they want to leave, the club will be forced into either keeping an unhappy player against his will or selling a player without the ability to replace him. It would require a hell of a lot of hindsight to make certain the squad gets through to the following window as strong as it needs to be. If this were a change across all of Europe then I think it'd be great, but I think it'd cause mayhem if we were the only country to introduce such a rule.
Imagine it would make pre-season friendlies a bit more interesting, and more in line with what many on the forum already seem to expect from them. Could also lead to an extension of the closed season by a week or so, which would suit the big clubs in that they could extend their lucrative tours (wouldn't be surprised if that is the real motivation) and they can also blame a compacted season for failing to make the champions league, etc..
Martin Samuels can create a whole 2-pagr article on how we have exacerbated this situation. Our penchant for 'loaning' non-HG players from Europe and now South America has put tremendous pressure on the top 6 clubs. Wonderful managers like Conte have been forced to sell their most talented youngsters to lesser teams. Indeed Watford getting Chalobah was a 'steal' for which they should be punished. Already Watford are showing distinct signs of upsetting the status quo, so special help needs to be offered to our traditional big clubs in the national interest. The FA plan to call this the 'hunker down' programme.
If this is the case, prem players can go out to leagues like La Liga, Bundesliga and make the Prem weaker... terrible idea
What about when Brexit is finally sorted out? It could mean every player we want to sign from Europe needs a work permit like Richarlson, we'll be at a disadvantage to all the other clubs in Europe because it will be much harder to sign players. I bet Sky and the PL are shitting themselves at the prospect.
Given the huge amount of tax income that the PL generates, I'd bet my house that the government do not change the rules on EU nationals working in football (and other high tax revenue areas such as banking).
This. It makes no sense what so ever other than to stop people buying league positions at the end of the year. I suggest we allow transfers all season up until say Feb 1st and for it to open again after the FA Cup final. I would allow a maximum of 5 changes to the nominated team during the season.
On the upside .... while it may hamper us it will crucify the majority of our peers and thus could see us perpetually safe
