From next season, smoking is banned from inside the ground. You are allowed to smoke in the concourses only.
I think this is great news, i pay my money to go to the vic and watch football, not get cancer!

    Everyone elses views on this?

i am a smoker so this would affect me, but i dont think that i could not manage 45 minutes or so without a cigarette, so wont lose sleep over it.

I think its alot better though, it gets annyoing when you are getting smoke blown into your face all the time. Fair play to the people who try not to blow it in other peoples faces. If im honest i dont really mind the smell of it, but its just annoying if you know what i mean? Lol

    Fair play wfchornet2 :)

i do appreciate what you are saying and i do try to keep it under control when i smoke.. i tend to blow it above me, but there are times when it cant be helped, so i can sympathise with your point of view.

As an ex-smoker I can see both sides of the argument. The government likes the tax generated by smokers but everyone else treats them like lepers. Now that I regularly take the kids with me I have to fall in favour of the ban. Most smokers are very good about where they blow their smoke, but there's always one, (and they always sit in front of me )

Some of my strongest memories of standing in the Vic end in the 80's was the smell of tobacco you always got with a packed house. There was always this one old boy with a huge pipe that he filled with some sweet smelling stuff, I'll never forget the smell. Ahhhh, happy days!!

I think you will find that public places will be doing this over time, if you think cinemas have been none smoking for several years now.
That was well before the idea of a total public smoking ban was even considered.

Think the law applies to enclosed public spaces. Not sure how this applies to a stand though. Is it enclosed?

guess it depends on the defenition of enclosed.. it has 3 walls and a roof and it iis very tight, could be classed as enclosed by some.

I smoke, and can also appreciate everyones views. When I am at the games I will always blow the smoke upwards and am very concious of people around me, there are time when it is impossible to stop smoke going over other people depending on the wind direction and force.

I had a nightmare on saturday my lighter ran out just as we kicked off and had to go the whole match without a fag. I coped but during the first half I wanted a couple

Vic wud be classed as enclosed cos it has a roof - stadiums like St Albans which have the old terraces wud be classed as open

    Aint that the worst????
Happened to me a couple of times last season, but all that tells me is that i coped then and would cope if it were a standard "not allowed too anyway" thing.
