Unless Preston are selling one or both of their best assets rather than lose them for nothing in the summer?
And how much would they get for their best assets who are available on a free in the summer? Think it's unlikely Preston sign Whiteman unless Doncaster accept a pretty low figure for them
https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1347138810262519810 110 - Ben Whiteman ranks top in League One this season for his number of unique involvements in shot ending sequences (110), showing how vital he is to the contribution in the creation of shots in open play. I think its fair to say that this lad will easily step up, a lot of my friends and family support Coventry City and they mostly agree that there isn't a massive difference between league one and the bottom half of the championship. I see that he is apparently edging towards going to Preston rather than Watford, I know that we are underperforming this season but we are still near the top of the table and have a good opportunity of getting promoted, I understand that geography may play a part but you do have to question this lads ambition also.
Absolute shambles and joke of a club we are. Our board are so out of touch with how football works. They keep doing what they’ve always done. That may have worked in years past, but now their model is broken. However, they choose to press forward with this broken model. Losing Ben Whiteman to Preston is just as bad as losing to Yeovil. Tragic!
Lot of mixed messages going around! https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.u...-bids-championship-clubs-ben-whiteman-3088443
He has the means and talent to live in South, but is choosing to remain oop Norff? Can he even spell his own name? NEXT.
You You don't need talent to live in the south. I know plenty of people around here who've none whatsoever. But maybe Priti is planning an entrance exam for northerners wanting to move down here.
We should be proud that we were reported without any real evidence as being interested in him. That should be viewed as a huge step up and keep even the most cynical fans happy.
Football Insider now reporting that Preston have had "a bid of over 1.5m" accepted. They need to bring in Whiteman to replace a several of their midfielders who are yet to sign new contracts and may leave in the summer. I'm curious about people's views: if we could sign Alex Mowatt or Ben Pearson, both of whom are about a year older than Whiteman, have looked like very good central midfielders in the Championship, and are out of contract in the summer so would be available for less than Whiteman - would those who are seemingly distraught at not snapping up Whiteman be content? It's interesting to compare players who have looked good or very good in the championship with a player who has looked head and shoulders above other players in L1. In my view, Whiteman may have a higher ceiling but also a lower floor.
Except we won't sign any of them so to compare them with a view to deciding between them is irrelevant.
Careful mate, you might get a snarky reply. Seems to be consistent amongst the 'scouts' around here. Very precious group. Apart from The Recluse. He's wonderful.
You say that but he seems to watch approx 82 U23, U18, U16, U12, etc games a week. He probably goes out more than the rest of the forum put together.
I think they feel an urgency to spend cash this month since four of their best players are leaving on frees this summer. But I broadly agree with your sentiments.
