    or,

Beat Luton 5-0 home and away but finish 16th?

This season specifically (the one with no fans): the former.

I have an unfashionable view on Luton. Really couldn't care less about them.

Win the league obviously. Most Champions lose the odd game and have a couple of bad results. I hate losing to all teams, but losing 5-0 to Luton would not annoy me anymore than losing 5-0 to Barnsley or Coventry. It makes me laugh that people are building up Luton as if it means something. It's a dead rivalry as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather we beat Bournemouth than Luton given the choice.

Losing to the scum would hurt but going out of business will hurt more.

Failure to get promoted this year could leave us in real financial trouble (if we're not already), especially if we are still carrying the high waged dead weight we currently have on our books.

I don’t remember the game 14 years ago. I can’t have my only memories of a derby game being humiliating defeats.

The Championship’s better anyway. Stay down, hammer the scum.

Irrelevant as we are going to beat them 5-0 home and away AND win the league.

Makes me laugh that Bournemouth are considered a rival. I understand if people are blasé about the scum but then try and invent a different rivalry seems odd

I feel sorry for Bournemouth, as the only team in Dorset, and with Southampton historically being so much bigger than them, they have no natural rivals, it appears their biggest game of the season will be us. It could be a huge couple of games for us this season if we're both up there, but if not, the L*ton game is far bigger, no doubt

Definitely the league, not only does it win you promotion, but it's also something we've not done before. If it were a choice between 2nd place/play-off winners and beating L*ton home and away, it's something I'd have to think about a bit more

The Premier League isn't as exciting a prize as it was before, although with our financial state as perilous as it is, it is important

It's far from dead imo, the first fixtures I looked for along with many others I'd imagine. To me Bournemouth or any of these other fake rivalries mean absolutely nothing. A scrappy win tomorrow will make the world a better place.

Normally I would opt to lose on Saturday and win the league. But if we lose on Saturday and don’t field key players wfcmoog will change his name to just moog, so to protect time honoured tradition and our forum‘s integrity we have to beat them.

It depends. Finishing 16th would be a little more palatable if part of the deal was they finished 22nd, 23rd or 24th and disappeared back towards where they belong!

We all have our own view, but no-one who endured that string of 1-0 defeats at the start of the 80s would ever think like this. The 5-2 win that ended that sequence was glorious.

You're wrong (about the bit in bold).

14 years is a long time. An entire generation has grown up without knowing anything about the fixture.

Most kids get into football at around 13, so you could be 27 now and still know nothing about Watford v Luton.

For me it's a nostalgic nod to the past, but certainly a bit tinpot these days. This could be a passing event. If we go up and stay up, we probably won't play them again for another 14 years.

It will only become a rivalry once more, if we play each other many times. If we both stay in the Championship for a few years, then yes, it could be reignited, but I really hope that doesn't happen. Watford v Luton belongs to the past. They need us more than we need them...IMO.

No..I hated it. I remember during that time, we played at Dog Road and were losing 1-0 (as always). Malcolm Poskett equalised and I thought finally the run is over, only for the referee to disallow the goal and give Watford a free kick for an earlier infringement. We lost 1-0!!. That summed it up to me. They always had the edge over us in those times, but now they seem irrelevant to me. It's a bygone past.

    The real choice is:

Would you rather lose to Luton and finish 16th and be mad about

    Or

Would you prefer to lose to Luton and finish 16th and pretend that was a decent outcome all round.

To you it is. But I'd say the majority believe it is the only rivals and these games mean more to me than any other.

That would be a decent outcome if it means we kept hold of players like Pussetto and Murray.

I'd just like the club to be around in three years time. If we go down to even league two, but we still have a club to support with a stable financial base, that to me means more than beating those things up the road.

Right now, we are in such a tough transition period, don't know who is staying, don't know who is leaving. Relegation has hurt us, and right now we need to look to the future and hope we can build one.

Has to be Champions and lose twice. With Covid being what it is, turning down the TV money and guaranteed financial survival would be stupid.

I shall be crossing my fingers tomorrow, hoping that we beat Loon of course, but mostly hoping that Watford FC is still a thing in 12 month's time.
