BBC bias rife in the 70s, the two Gillingham goals had slow-mo replays afterwards none of our 3 goals did.
Pritchett, Bolton, Ross and Luther were the only players from that game still at the club 2 years later.
Great memories - Gillingham was a scary away game! - I had an Austin Maxi then and can recall being chased back to it after the Gillingham end emptied before the match ended and was waiting outside to firmly shake our hands in congratulations - I got back to the car ahead of them but it was like a tank to drive and i was in a one way street pointing the way the Gillingham lot were running towards - so it was either run them over or do a 27 point turn in a hurry (parked both sides not bad driving) and drive the wrong way - I chose the latter!
Although GT was always prepared to give existing players a chance after a promotion, there came a point when he recognised a reset of the squad was required to enable the club to move on.
After two promotions on the spin, there is only so far Division 4 players would be able to push a team towards promotion towards the first division. We also saw in 1999/2000 that 3rd tier players were mostly not good enough for the Premier League.
Certainly was! Wasn't helped by the programme giving poor directions as I recall. Not much better than 'get in car, drive for an hour and park'. We seemed to walk for hours to reach the ground. Not exactly Brompton Cross!
