Or yellow red and black. A bit like red, white and blue, what's the order of our colours? I know I got seriously chastised from a German friend for getting her flag colours in the wrong order
Yellow first - it has identified us since the 50's. Then black - our colours were yellow and black for years; then the jonny come lately red.

I never fully understand why we wear red in our kit. A hornet has the same markings as a wasp or bee, so that’s main body yellow and black stripes. The only noticeable reason for red is the away kit colours which I do like. When we wear yellow top with red shorts and socks we look like injured Hornets.

But I still prefer the yellow and black without the red. I did not like it when it was introduced and I don't like it now, except that I think a bit of red trim is quite acceptable. Some of the kits from the past with lots of red, just don't look like Watford to me. Probably because I come from an earlier era.
When red was first introduced it differentiated us from all the other good and black teams: Oxford, Hull, Wolves etc. You could instantly tell a Watford scarf. I do agree that lots of red looks wrong though.
Red an yellow hasn't done this chap any harm. and I recon we have had some recent clownlike performances. Look at this chap's feet though. Wouldn'nt want to stop a penalty from one of those boots.

Red was a GT thing, wasn't it? To give a more active, aggressive look. In fact, red predominates in his years, often to drop out thereafter. Could we reintroduce some more red in the Jan window?
Yes this has confused me in the past.. but the answer was that GT added the red shorts as he thought more red would make us look more aggressive.
Although, to be balanced, do you think that those 'chaps of a certain age' who wear red trousers look more aggressive? That's not the first adjective which crosses my mind when I see one.
For those of us oldies who enjoyed the GT era the red and yellow has a special place in our hearts. However that era has long gone and I like the yellow (gold) and black with just a bit of red here and there.
I'm not so sure he was involved. But maybe he was: There is a theory that teams that wear red do better due to some psychological thing going on. But I suspect it was one of the kit firms suggesting it was more showbiz and would sell more. Or they ran out of ideas for black and yellow. Taylor was a traditionalist and initially abhored the commercialisation of kit - he actually said something along the lines of 'when we adopt advertising on the shirts is the day I'm off' !! Perhaps Rita told him they still had a mortgage to pay for or something.
Yellow and black for me. I don't mind a little bit of red trimming. Actually, best of all for me would be gold and black. Yes, like the Wolves colours. There would be no confusion between us as they are ones who are losing. Our original yellow was, in fact, just that. I still wear a 'Cliff Holton special' to matches. Classier. Making us look like the distinctly down-market Ronald McDonald does us no favours, except among 10-year-olds, of course. I always assumed the gold turned to yellow because of material-dying problems with the newer kits. Clearly, this is wrong. The 'Hornets' nickname surely came about following the change to gold and black, not the other way round; or am I wrong again? However, the debate about the real colour of real hornets comes up yet again. The overall impression on seeing them in the wild is that they are yellow, brown and black. Agreed the brown sometimes has a bit of a reddish tint in it when the sun shines. There is a nest marked up on Chorleywood Common, still just about flying, if you want to see one. They live in a tree. Some of the photos up the page are of foreign wasps and hornets or via Photoshop; do we want Harry to be British or are even our mascots to be signed from abroad?
