I remember a receptionist at B'wood venue (gyms + pool) talking about the time of Diana's funeral:

"Good morning the Venue how may I help you?"
"Are you going to be open during the day of Princess Di's funeral?"
"Oh I don't know - but I'll find out for you, please hold the line... Yes we will be open fr..."
"HOW CAN YOU DISRESPECT HER MEMORY LIKE THIS?????????"

I complained to the family (mine that is, not the Royals) but I just found other things to do than watch the griefathon / obsequiousforelocktugathon. When I watch TV I usually use terrestrial TV when it's broadcast because I prefer the routine. I won't ever 'discover' Netflix because a) I'm too busy to watch it and b) I won't pay for a service that dishes up mostly dross anyway (add Sky and all other services) and there's plenty of stuff on iPlayer to have kept me going through the lockdowns. So although I'm not quite a boomer I still don't feel silly at all!

The whole Diana hysterics and the media acting like the world was ending was a national embarrassment.

It does go to show how a full blown media assault can get into a lot of people's heads very quickly.

I'm outraged. Those Lefist, Marxist, Pinkoes at The Observer have only devoted a paltry half a page to the death of the Queen's consort. The other half is a trivial story concerning some so-called pandemic nonsense. For goodness sake this is no time for some half-baked trivia.

    TheObserver.png

Thank goodness that the true patriots at the Express group have provided a full page of balanced, knee-jerk sycophancy, and a fulsome 16-page tribute, which in the interest of balance, will hopefully detail this newspaper group's rabid ramblings of how he directly ordered the assassination of the "People's Princess" ........ er, or maybe not.

It's a shame that rather than buying flowers en masse to show how caring they are, people can't just use the money they would've spent on a bouquet and given it to a worthwhile charity, particularly as they are taking a real hit in these tough times. Now that really would be a decent legacy.

Also, Battlestar Galactica in the graveyard slot on BBC2 Fri night has become a regular end of the working week ritual before falling asleep in my chair. This massive disruption to my routine has completely unhinged my already fragile psyche.

Any Questions on R4 on Sat (usually listen to it while making my lunch before the match if there is one) was replaced with a panel-based tribute of the one who has died. Any Answers followed, including people critical of the coverage and one poor bloke, living on his own, who had wall-to-wall tribute coverage on the TV and Radio, and felt completely disconnected with the outside world.

AQs? is not regular listening for me but I do try to always catch AAs? as the massed ranks of the army of loons, deluded/bewildered and bigots who call in at least appear to make our political masters somehow seem 'better'.

I do sometimes miss the BBC WS phone-ins - they seemed to have an annual 'spot' for a pair of loons: the first complaining that the continued use of the BBCWS's 'theme-song' Lilibullero was fanning sectarianism in Norniron and Jockland, the second was a Dutch nutter complaining how his country actually wasn't called "Holland".

There's usually one or two "fruitcake/swivel-eyed loons" on AA who cause me to spit my sandwich out in disbelief.

Which is exactly what the Royal family have asked the public to do. Keep up.

Great idea because to honour the Duke's heritage everyone would need to smash them and immediately buy another!

Well it fell on deaf ears then. I only found out about it by actively searching for it.

The burning urge to be seen doing something in front of the cameras is just too much for certain members the general public.

I've had to turn off the Sky news alerts on my phone because I'm being bombarded with article after article about Prince Philip. It's relentless.

It was all over the media yesterday.

But, yes I agree, some people have that burning urge of which you speak. Others have a burning urge to join any "right on" bandwagon they can find.

Such is the world in which we live.

If you look up the word ‘bandwagon’ in google images, the most popular picture is one of you astride such a vehicle shouting ‘cancel culture’, ‘it’s PC gawn mad I tells ya’, ‘ooh the woke’ etc etc.

I think the BBC's coverage of the D of E's death was excellent and I will watch it again and again on iPlayer when the normal scheduled programmes return

Thank you for registering a complaint.

The passing of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was a significant event which generated a lot of interest both nationally and internationally.

We acknowledge your complaint about the level of coverage, particularly in relation to the BBC News Special simultaneously broadcasting on BBC One and Two on Friday 9 April. We do not make such changes to billed schedules without careful consideration.

The decisions made reflect the role the BBC plays as the national broadcaster, during moments of national significance.

We are grateful for your feedback, and we always listen to the response from our audiences.

My wife is not much of a royalist but we have both been enjoying the BBC's coverage because, its so refreshing to see polite, nicely middle class normal people being interviewed. A welcome change from the usual procession of angry tattooed low life with bones through their noses with a grievance about things that nobody in their right mind gives a damn about . I'm sure a lot of people feel the same

I think this complaints register, with 110,000 names of total idiotic wasters, could be a valuable resource for potential employers and those seeking a partner for "sifting" purposes.

C ould it be obtained under a FOI request?

I wonder how many from this forum are on it?
