Linked with Kevin Danso, 21 year-old Austrian CB who was on loan at Southampton last season from Augsburg, having a very mixed time of it by most accounts (though wasn't really given a shot at his favoured CB position, more often being shoved in at full-back). Made 3 starts and 3 sub apps in the PL, including a red card for 2 yellows in one start vs Man Utd, and getting hooked at half-time vs Muff.

Hamburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf, both of Bundesliga 2, and Nottingham Forest are other sides mentioned.

Get him in with an option to buy. Potentially a very good player.

Turns out he lived in Milton Keynes from the age of 6 to 15 and was in the academies of both MK Dons and Reading.

With that and us potentially bringing in Struber we could make sense for him if our interest is genuine.

Was in the English system from age 9 to 16, does he count as homegrown?

    Good point.

I think so. The rule states:
"Players are considered as ‘homegrown (HG)’ if and only if they were registered with clubs affiliated with the English FA and/or Welsh FA at least 3 years before turning 21, continuous or not, regardless of their nationality or age."

I presume players will be "registered" somehow in academies from their early teens?

That could be handy actually, considering that in the Championship we'll need to have minimum 7 HG players in every squad plus 1 club-developed player.

Mariappa (and Quina, possibly depending on how a season is counted) are the only two players I can think of near the first-team picture at the moment who would count as the latter.

Well Quina has only been with us 2 years, so he definitely won't be considered club developed. Not sure how they do it in the Championship these days, but Quina is under 21 so might not count in the 25 man squad?

Sounds more promising than the free transfer from Wigan.

Danso sounds like a 1960s washing powder.

Maybe he can help to clean up our mess of a squad?

Young sh1te replacing the older sh1te. What's not to like?
21 and a full international to me means there is a player in there.
Anyways there are a few centre backs that have interested me today Matt Clarke of Brighton. A Derbty fan I was speaking to was bigging him up and got player of the season. Brighton are overloaded with CB's. Plus the Man City defender who was at Blackburn. Cant spell his name. He looked very good. Went to ground abit to easily for my liking but hes a big unit. There about and there's no need to overspend if we are looking at capable Championship centre backs.

Preferably I'd like a defender in their mid 20s who's an upgrade on our current defenders to play alongside Wilmot next season, but beggers can't be choosers I suppose. Dunno if there's any truth to this rumour, or if we're willing to pay in excess of £5m for him, but I'd say we're a more attractive prospect at the moment than Forest or Hamburg

Hopefully this one comes off, I'd prefer us going for potential than defenders the wrong side of 30.

Sure but it would also be good to have a CB nearer to coming in to their peak as well.

Would a 20 year-old in Wilmot next to, say, a 21 year-old in Danso be steady enough to get us promoted? However much potential they might have it could be a tough ask.

Maybe at times we will play a three. Plus as I've been informed by someone on here that Watford see Wilmot as more of a midfielder!
