I think I am right in thinking that from next season onwards, there is a new rule in the Football League. The new 'homegrown' players rule means that each club in the Football League would require at least four of the match-day 16 squad to have been registered domestically, for a minimum of three seasons, prior to their 21st birthday. With the current squad I think we could do that easily, possibly even have 4 in our first team: Smith, Doyley, Mariappa, Lee etc. I was wondering, who out of our squad is eligible for this and what will we do if some of those players are sold/released by the club. Can we afford to have youngsters on the bench week in week out?
True, I think it only really helps lower league produced British talent but then the majority of lower league teams have British players anyway.
This is what I think the list of Homgrown players is: Sadler Eustace McAnuff Doyley Loach L.Williamson Harley Lee Robinson Bangura Smith Hoskins Mariappa M.Williamson O'Toole Parkes Young Henderson Bennett Something like that.
The rule is ********...most Prem academies are filling up with foreign kids who will eligible when they come through.
