Do we still need a left back? Maybe one for the reserves, I suppose

yeah we need a squad player. Holebas is no longer fit for purpose so if Masina got injured/lost form Kiko moves to left back. Janmaat is obsolete so that would mean Mariappa at right back every game.

If we sign him it'll mean no worries (at left back) for the rest of our days.

Bid turned down according to Get France Football Now online. Says Reims would sell for €5.5m. So I assume we’ve bid the 0.5m bit....

I'll be annoyed all this looking for a LB has anything to do with Masina going.

Maybe thinking of playing him in the middle at CB?

He's only 5-5. But looks pretty fast.
Youssouf Fofana has been mentioned also. Midfielder from Strasbourg.

Yes agreed. Replacing Masina, with the form he's in now, would be totally Hassane.

I did read that he was playing left midfield last night. So a handy option to have if true. But as you say Masina is looking the part.

Holebas will probably sign a new contract extension next week securing his services as our first choice left back for the next five seasons.

Shhhh don’t tell anyone but he’s our best player. While Chilwell is probably the weakest link defensively, Manchester City are still gagging to sign him. Just like Maguire and United. Idiots.

Going forward he looks superb. As good in defence?
Maguire is and always has been just average for me. For å big guy incredibly weak. Will get found out in the Summer if selected as will all of the defence and useless keeper.

Yeah he’s very good all round, we’d do well to hold onto him and Ndidi for much longer, they’re the only ones in this team who could go on to successfully play for an ‘elite’ club.

Will he "get found out" to the same extent as he was (or rather wasn't) when we reached the World Cup Semi-Final just 18 months ago with him in the team?!

Don't get me wrong, I don't rate Maguire all that highly, but I don't understand the constant slating the England national team gets even when it does pretty well.

In fairness, any time they played a half decent team they lost. Belgium X2 and Croatia (who France showed were nothing special themselves).

Depends how far you stretch ‘elite’. Ricardo and Ndidi especially can go on to be among the very best in the world in their positions.

I see Maddison signing for Manchester United or Spurs and wasting his potential. It’s too early to tell with Soyuncu but if David Luiz can have the career he’s had then so can Caglar.

As nornironhorn quotes. We haven't faced any real quality in qualifying either. I hope we do well but in all honesty a top quality attack will see our true colours.

Are we that skint that we can't stump up a relatively small amount for one of France's best players?

The distinction between ‘can’t and ‘won’t’ is huge to Gino.
