    When did his contract run out before this then? There's been no talk of it up to now, so presumably this is in effect a one year extension?

    It's great the club are looking after him. He's certainly earned it.

    We probably won't sign another keeper in this window but will still be on the lookout for a viable replacement sooner rather than later.

    Gomes, Bachman Pants are good options.

    It's not a priority right now. Maybe they had options they wanted as a new GK but they weren't available. So they will continue the search.

    OR... maybe they signed Bachman because they think he can be Gomes' successor. He wouldn't be the first player to be released by a club who goes on to be a good premier league player.

    I can confidently say that he won't get a look-in at Watford this season. In fact, I can predict that he'll only appear once at the Vic this season. At the very most, no more than three times.

    I'm of the same opinion.

    This is an assumption but.....

    It would make sense that a contract for a backup/reserve goalkeeper would be structured differently to that of the No 1.
    Gomes more than likely would have appearance & clean sheet bonuses in his contract in addition to his base Salary.

    However, if you are the backup keeper you would want a higher base salary and smaller percentage of your wage to be performance based.
    Simply because you would have less opportunities to gain those bonuses.

    Hence, I'm of the opinion that the Gomes contract is a sure sign that a new goalkeeper is imminent.
