Diwali is the festival of light and it's customary to let fireworks off to celebrate it. Also as mentioned above it's near to Nov 5th.

Fireworks aren't really a part and parcel to any other celebrations other than Diwali & Nov 5th, they're just additional

Just a wild guess, but if you throw bamboo into a fire, you probably just get burnt bamboo.

Life must have been boring as **** for ancient Ratboys.

No you don't - you get explosions. Bamboo has little compartments. The gasses heat up inside and it's an ancient banger.

Drawing on my extreme age, I can tell you that when I was a boy in the 60s people made the effort to celebrate Guy Fawkes/Firework/Bonfire night on November 5th only, irrespective of the day of the week. So that was the only night of the year you would hear fireworks, other than the odd organised display on the nearest Saturday, but there were not many of those. New Year fireworks certainly were not a thing until the Millennium.

There is a Santa one outside a local school where I live. Made me chuckle. Can only imagine some kids didnt get what they wanted last year.

The people round here make Highgrade look like Rees-Mogg fml.

Also this thread was meant to be in general banter but I put it in general sport for some reason. I must be getting old, fml again.
