We've been linked with Cardiff's Darren Purse now, so says vitalfootball.co.uk

Purse would be a good signing if the price was right, but he’s one of Cardiff’s key players, cant see them selling him whilst they have a chance of promotion.
I wonder whether Davenport is on Aidy’s list again, young, not playing for Spurs (point to prove) and has potential.

I hope to god we don't sign him! He's s**t at premiership level! Remember him at WBA? Awful! Good signing for a championship club....Jay and Danny are a good partnership and wouldn't want to split them up!

Thats what I was thinking, he's their captain, and they are doing well, so I'd expect they'd want a fair bit for him

I think Purse has improved a lot since he was at West Brom, but I agree that there are better defenders available. At the end of the day it comes down to cost, and we will probably go with the cheapest best option.

I agree that I wouldn't break the Jay and Danny partnership, but we are lacking a back-up. Malky lacks the pace, Mariappa (he's gonna score a goal) is too inexperienced and Carlisle is still injured, and will take time to get match fitness.

On another note, if we do go down, an experienced Championship player like Purse will give us added depth in the push for promotion (that may be a negative way to look at the potential January signings though).

True we do lack options! Doyley can also cover at centre half...i also think Mariappa should be loaned out ready for a push next season into the first team!?

agree, not bad at fizzy pop level, but not good enough to step up, he wouldn't add to the squad.

The centre back position is one that doesn't need filling.

In most peoples opinions, of course the big exception being Aidy.

    So we will have

    Shittu
    Jay
    Clarke
    Malkay
    Adrian
    Osbourne
    Kamarra

and Doyley who can play there also.

    Plus a new one; 9

Out of that list though Jon how many of them would do the business at Prem level?

Jay and Danny are the only two that can at the moment...
Mariappa will be in a couple of years
    Carlisle - no chance
Malky - too old (will go in jan to norwich)
Osbourne - only see him at crewe away last season (not bad)
Kamara - not prem standard..possibly championship/league one at moment!

Doyley would be first change for either Jay or Danny at the moment because he has pace and reads the game well..playing at centre back won't make his crap distribution stand out either!

One loan signing won't hurt...although MAIN PRIORITIES surely lay in signing at least 2 strikers and a wide player!?

    don't disagree with that nick.

i would rather we signed two strikers, two midfielders and another full back before a centre half.

    And he can score penalties.

Although that wouldn't really matter if he came to us.

In the reserves he's played all across the back and midfield at various stages.

I see Purse has denied being interested in Watford to the press. Which of course means they've spun it to appear like he's rejected us and will be the first of many wanting to avoid a sinking ship. Balls to him I say! WFC should release an unambiguous statement tomorrow morning denying all interest in signing players of his quality and inferring that we need something better if we're looking to stay up. That'll soon stop mugs like him using our club to prove his loyalty to his own fans, and it'll stop the press spinning things against us.
