I'm certain that the majority of Herts born/resident posters have experienced this place. The council are closing it and you may feel that you wish to sign a petition against it.
I remember going there decades ago and someone starting a rumour that bears lived nearby and had eaten school children in their sleep. Now I'm older and my son will be old enough to go in a few years, I'm not having him eaten by a bear. Shut it down.
School trips are rubbish these days. My son has had trips to Germany, France and New York. We only heard from him during the latter when he 'needed' more cash to spend in the Malls. He'd have had more fun trying to cook sausages in a force nine gale outside a damp tent. Schools don't want to do Cuffley type trips these days. They can't make any money on them and sadly that's a big consideration. I'm not saying don't do language trips, but there is plenty to enjoy and learn about on our doorstep.
Some quality at CB is sorely needed, and this guy could be just the ticket. I think that Camp would work well alongside Prodl/Cathcart as well. Signed.
Too much and never again. In hindsight I don't think it's the right thing to do and agreed hastily. My philosophy would broadly be that trips should be in reach of all students, but I broke that. Down to me because he's not even a demanding sort of teen.

I saw this come up today and remembered a few on here mentioning Cuffley Camp was closing. Despite fierce opposition, Hertfordshire County Council announced that Cuffley Camp would be closing after it decided not to renew the lease. But the outdoor education centre, which was created just after the end of the Second World War, has been given a new lease of life and is set for a £1m redevelopment. Active Learning Group (ALG) has now taken ownership of the site and will embark on a year-long programme with the new and improved camp set to open next summer. Nigel Miller, CEO Active Learning Group, was handed the keys on Friday to the Cuffley site by Oliver Middlemiss, resident land agent at Hatfield House which owns the site and are incumbent lease holders. Mr Miller said: “We passionately believe that children should be actively immersed in the learning process and in turn, encourage self-assurance and character development in young people. We want kids to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in and explore the outside world to build their creativity, confidence and resilience. “We want to promise a series of ‘Cuffley Community Commitments’. We hope these commitments will help reassure local residents and their families that their much loved Cuffley is being restored and reinvigorated. “In 2019, Cuffley will be reborn: With the community’s help, we can capture and learn from all the fantastic collective memories of old and use them to build new ones for many generations to come.” Mr Middlemiss added: “It was always intended that Cuffley Camp should continue to operate as an outdoor education centre. I’m delighted that we were able to secure a partnership with such an experienced team. “We are confident in the ability of Active Learning Group, with their vast experience and knowledge, to deliver excellence in outdoor education for local children.” ALG plan to hold a launch party ahead of the grand reopening. As many of you know my son is in a "Special" School (St Luke's in Redbourn). One of the things that "sold" me on the place was its "rural ethos" (basically the place is a farm/smallholding with a school attached) and once a week is "Forest School". Regardless of weather/time of year the kids are taken out for most of the day to their "Forest School" (basically a wood with a hut, I *think* it's in Napsbury) or in the school grounds for various lessons: looking at/for plants, animals and their habitats, camp building, outdoor arts & crafts etc. I'm absolutely certain that this regular "outdoorsy" stuff (FFS we're in rural Herts) would benefits the kids in all schools - for instance at a school picnic last week I had a group of SEN kids telling me that what was flying/soaring overhead were "...red kites looking for dead lambs to eat..."
Harefield Sailing Base closing for HS2. Our school used to do camping there. Such a great place. Sad times.
