That's how long we were in the wilderness below the top flight the last time we were relegated.

    EIGHT years!!!

    It's coming again. In spades.

And we are 'lower divisions-bound', methinks, this time around.

    See you at Wealdstone away.

    7 the time before too.

    11 years the first time.

    We don’t bounce back quickly.

Yeah, there's no way we go up this season, and then we are likely completely f**ked next year.

I hope that the reality sets in and our owners cut their losses and **** off.

I'd still enjoy Championship football with a proper owner, focussed on our team rather than on his own wheeling and dealing away from our club.

Exactly. Our natural level is the championship ( and was lower before Elton came along) , so we can expect to spend most of our time in this league . Being in the premier league for 5 years ( and our previous 6 years in the top flight in the 80s ) was a massive bonus .

Trouble is as Nath says we might be in a bit of a pickle financially wise this time.

Well I guess it would only be like when we had Vialli and brought the likes of Ellington under Boothroryd.

The old Bristol city boss Johnson quoted a few seasons ago, if you don’t make the premier league within the next 5 seasons then unless you get a financial takeover like wolves city derby for example the financial difference is to big a gap and we will see the same teams bouncing up and down.
Now looking at the clubs top end of the current championship and bottom of premier league it’s starting to look that way. I can’t see us doing a Sunderland as they have struggled with poor owners as have hull Pompey and our fearless Italian mafia might of ****ed things up but I can’t see them ducking up as bad as some.

We may not bounce straight back but I won’t be betting on none of muff Norwich or ourselves not going straight back.

Loss of gate income will hit us hard as will the continued suppressed transfer market that we need to cash in our assets and pay down our debts. God know what we will actually be able to get for Sarr in Jan or summer given his performances in the champ to date plus a dead market.

Maybe the players we currently have think the same too. Do they really want to get promoted, get bashed three nil each week then come down again? It's crazy to even imagine this being the case as most of what we have now would leave or get sold off to raise capital.

I like the Championship personally, and when we went up under Joka it was a surprise to most that we did so well under QSF. We scrapped against relegation with Wally, then snake screwed us over etc etc.

Would the owners improve what we have if we did go up? Would we sign a bloody left back? It's all if and but right now. Currently we have a mis firing mid table side who are dragging their heels with a manager only now slightly showing signs of changing things up. Our midfield is one of the weakest it has been for a long time, and our injury record continues to be staggering in all areas.

If we don't go up this season, Sarr and Pedro will almost certainly be sold to finance next season. Foster may go, and Hughes may even be Premiership bound. I want to focus on where we are right now, but until we get a consistent side and formation we will never know just how good or bad we really are right now.

It's not a bonus of any size when the described goal of the owners and the club is to become an established Premier League side. Just because the wheels fell off and panic ensued does not mean we've immediately regressed to a 'little club' that so many want us to return to.

The next 6 months or so will go a long way in deciding that fate.

Not a case of "wanting to", just an exercise in logical perspective. Not excusing the hierarchy's ****-up of last 18 months, but it's realistic to point out that, for a club like ours, the margins between staying in the PL and not doing so are very small, as last season proved. Clubs like ManUre & Citeh, even Leicester & Soton, can actually make much larger mistakes & are likely to get away with it due to their greater resources...mega-rich owners especially. For the same reasons, we have a very narrow window of opportunity to get back up any time soon, which is why the current 5h1tfest masquerading as a promotion charge is so dangerous, which fully supports your comment about the importance of the next 6 months.

How many clubs in the champ do you think have the goal of "becoming an established prem club" ? How many do you think will achieve it in the next 10 years ? How many will have better resources to achieve that once we have used our best players and reducing prem monies to pay down our debt ?
In the same way that the goal 18 months ago was to be "the best of the rest" in the prem. Not a chance we would have the funds to achieve it but it sounded great to the fans and potential signings to say it.

Obviously , it goes without saying that we we have very different perspectives . It is absolutely a bonus to me . Regardless of what the stated ambitions were, realistically in football you can’t guarantee anything . unless you have billions to invest. They may well establish us at some point in the future , or they may not , I’m just realistic .

I‘m not one of those that want us to go back to being the plucky little club . I really enjoyed supporting a premier league club , but I never could have imagined what happened possible back in 2012 . So yes it’s still a bonus to me that we managed 5 years in the premier league .

How many seasons does it take to be considered an 'established' EPL club? We've just had 5 years which I reckon should have been sufficient. That's what makes last season's shambles so irritating

I was a little over optimistic at the start of the season but these performances and attitudes on show have really slapped me down. I'm awaiting somebody to give us a right spanking. Tomorrow could be the day.
