All we can do is hope. Signing foster has turned out to be an utter catastrophe.

Has any other player in the history of the club been solely responsible for our missing out on europe?

Jointly responsible I would say, rather than solely.
It was not Foster's fault that Cathcart was caught out for Southampton's first, and more importantly it was not his fault that Deeney got himself sent off against Arsenal.

Trevor Senior. 35 goals a season from him and we'd have walked it

I was about to refer to Trevor Senior Citizen, only to discover that he is 4 months younger than me.

    It was.

In those six seconds you could clearly see Cathcart was going to play it back to Foster, remembered the Arsenal match, and then felt giving it to Long was less likely to result in a goal than giving it to Foster.

Er, not necessarily. If his mum or dad had a sister who married, that chap would be his uncle. But that uncle's dad would not be his grandfather. They wouldn't be blood related.

Why? I had an uncle who I wasn't blood related to. As do millions of people..... This uncle was married to my mum's sister. So his dad wasn't my grandfather?

Likewise an aunt married to your dad's brother wouldn't share a grandfather with you either.

Foster seems be playing with renewed confidence and swagger again. A key reason for us challenging for 7th for the first two thirds of last season was his ability to pull a stunning save or two out of the bag every game. When that went our form sunk with it.

Comfortably our player of the season.

I bet Pearson wouldn't have dropped him for the cup final. I wonder how his watford side would have performed in that match, rather than gutless gracia?

Yes, another player who was written off by many on here as he was going through a rough patch.

That is very good, but when you're keeper is the fittest bloke there, you know you've got problems.

I remember there being a pre-season highlights video or article which mentioned that Foster is pretty much addicted to cycling machines though.

Also, cycling machines are a specific form of fitness with a limited range of motion, and not an overall indicator of fitness per se - for instance additional body weight, and lower agility, is less of an issue cycling compared to running. There are people who can cycle for ages but struggle with running.

I know he is the goalie but how many of our other squad members will be playing top flight football in their late 30s?

Most cannot last a season without getting injured!

He probably just looks after himself well and trains differently - as LR says he like a good old bike ride rather than the latest flashy car.

Here's one interview section that's relevant to this:

    "
“I don’t train all the time, just for the fact my body needs a rest and I don’t feel I need to train too much either.
“But on the days that I don’t train, I am in the gym doing a fair few kilometres on the watt bike!”

Given Foster’s injury record, it is no surprise that he and Watford have both agreed to manage the time he spends out on the training pitch.
The goalkeeper has suffered three cruciate knee ligament ruptures, the first of which happened playing tennis with his brother at the age of 19.
It means the watt bike has become his best friend. Workouts on that help keep Foster fit, while they subject his knees to a very low level of impact.
    Clearly it is working
    "
    https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...ey-comments-cafe-rouge-and-more-a4074136.html

If Foster had to train in the same manner as the outfield players then he would no doubt be injured more often again and probably be retired already. His training regime is clearly geared towards longevity and sustainability. Being a goalkeeper is less intensive than an outfield player as well anyway.

I wasn't initially keen when we signed him from Albion. But he's been nothing but superb. So have to say a big congratulations to him.
