Training with the U23s this morning by the look of it. Never thought I'd say this but I'm glad to see him back. Don't think he works that well in a footballing side anymore, but for a long ball team scrapping for every point like us he becomes useful.
Good news, Troy is at least up for a fight, and does make other players better as he is happy to do the ugly stuff. He does need to be at his best and not the player who started against Brighton. I am not sure how long it will take him to get fully fit, I suspect he is a good few weeks away.
In the land of the blind a one eyed man is king.... until the transfer window when you can find someone with two
It would be difficult not to, I reckon I could improve our attack if I was still in my hey day of 50 years ago Maybe I could even do it now, arthritic knees and all
He is useful for doing the stuff GD, RP & AG can't/won't do. When he is back you will see an upturn in goals, not from Deeney necessarily but from him doing the centre forward work.
Can't remember where I saw it, probably in The Times, Tony Cascarino rated all the Prem captains for their captaining abilities. Troy got the top mark, 8/10, along with about four others.
To be honest after we lose to Norwich I'd have him as a replacement to QSF At least until the end of the season.
Agreed. He'll do the tough, lone striker work required to create a yard of space for GD etc to exploit. Plus at least he gives a ****.
Another "exclusive" interview with Troy Deeney. Exclusive interviews where he talks about prison this season - 7 Appearances for Watford FC - 2 Not usually something that would bother me but with things as they are there should be a media blackout.
Great to have him back. The way he's slotted straight back into the "as much of an attacking threat as our goalkeeper" role so seamlessly is fantastic. What a man.
He has really upset you hasn't he?! Our entire strikeforce has been as threatening as a kitten all season, Deeney's first start last night since August and you are gunning for him. Has he turned you down for an autograph or something?
I've been "gunning" for him for the past two years, because he's been turd for the majority of that time. Physically way, way past his best and frequently clearly overweight, just a big, static lump that offers nothing in terms of attacking threat, makes a fool of himself in the media, and let's the team down with indiscipline despite being our captain. He is a relic of the past and our fans need to get over him and stop licking his arse just because he sticks a big tackle in every now and again.
He might be crap, but so are Deulofeu, Gray and Success. The difference with Deeney is he seems to give a sh!t. Admittedly that doesn't make him any better but being crap and having a go gets more respect from me than being crap and not really bothering which is whats happening with the other 'strikers'.
Deulofeu isn't a striker though, he's been played out of position there because of our refusal to replace relics like Deeney and woeful crap like Gray. Deulofeu has spent 90% of his career on the wings. Success instantly looked more dangerous than Deeney last night, despite how generally poor he's been as well. Deeney doesn't look like he "gives a crap" to me most of the time at all, and that is what I mean by people being fooled and giving him a pass. Now and then he chases back and puts a big tackle in, but more often than not he strolls around doing absolutely nothing and barely even moving. His attacking movement is genuinely laughable.
Tell me that bit in bold doesn't apply to the rest of our strikers and try not to laugh as you say it... Deulofeu has said himself he is a striker. Regardless, he is all fart and no poo wherever he plays. Success has been here for what, 4 years? And done nothing other than have a bust up with a brass. Gray is as crap as Deulofeu - hence why they are level on goals this season. I don't think Deeney is up to it anymore, but he is better than the rest of what we have. And that is a damning indictment of our squad.
Again, he is supposed to be our captain. That is the one major difference. And of course Deulofeu is now saying he's a striker because that's where he is being forced to play. Doesn't change the fact that he's spent the vast majority of his career playing a very different role. Even then he scored 10 league goals last season in only something like 25 starts. As you say, they're all crap right now, but Deeney is completely finished and has even less excuse for being so static and useless because he is the captain of the team.
If you are saying Deeney should be running more because he is the skipper and the others can be forgiven for standing around then that sums up the issue - the entire squad lacks professional pride. They should all try to outwork the opposition and also outwork each other.
That's not what I'm saying though, is it? I thought that was pretty clear. What I'm saying he is the captain and should be the one leading by example, and generally he doesn't. That doesn't give anyone else a free pass at all, it just means for me that Deeney is the worst of the bunch because he's supposed to be the main man.
You do know last night was his first game back since August? You just seem hell bent on having a pop at him at any opportunity. Each to their own - just seems a bit odd when there is an entire squad that are worthy of fans vitriol at the moment to focus in on one player.
And you can't deny that Troy's sending off against Arsenal was a clear contributing factor to our end-of-season collapse. Without someone to hold up the ball or give something else for the opposition defenders to worry about, we had almost zero threat in crucial home games against the Gunners, Southampton and our closest rivals for 7th place, Wolves. With him in the team, we'd have likely beaten the first two and got at least a draw against the other. This meant we had no momentum and no real confidence after not even making the top half going into the final. But yes, he could be seen as a liability as well as an asset but I wouldn't drop him, maybe give someone else the armband though.
As I've already said it's not just about last night, it's about the past 2+ years of it. All last night was, was instant, par for the course continuity of years of those sort of performances from him. For what it's worth I actually think Doucoure is the worst player in the team at the moment, closely followed by Femenia.
I actually agree with you on this one Nath, I have been saying for ages that Doucoure appears to have been a one season wonder and has not deserved his regular spot in the team for some time, I also agree that Femenia is ****. As for Deeney, he seems to be past his best, but he is probably the best all round striker we have at the moment, and just about deserves his spot on his attitude alone. However, we badly need to find a replacement for him as our main man in order to move forward.
Strange that, considering he needed an operation, that the club didn't realise this and recruit accordingly. Another tick in the great ownership and technical direction box.
