Hi. I’m trying to help get some info to complete a bespoke birthday present but struggling to find details on the web. Does anyone know the time of each goal when we beat Bolton 4:3 back in 1993? I can find the goal scorers but not the minute each one was scored. Any help greatly appreciated Thankyou.
This was one hell of a crazy game. I remember it well. Jason McAteer scored after 16 minutes to put Bolton 1-0 up. David Lee made it 2-0 on 39 minutes. Alan Thompson scored their third on 51 minutes...…..then came the fightback. Two quickfire goals from Gary Porter turned the game around. His first on 70 minutes, and his second on 73 minutes. Ken Charlery scored the equaliser on 89 minutes, but there was still time to win it and the referee gave a penalty in the 91st minute from which Porter scored his only career hattrick.
The other thing that should be remembered about that game was that, at the time, there was a huge degree of disgruntlement amongst the fans at the way the club was being run. So, with Watford 3-0 down at home, large numbers of people were leaving long before the last 20 minutes when the comeback started.
PS The times @hornetboy1 mentioned seem about right, I know we were two down by HT and they went 3 up early in the second. Porter's first was on 70. However I thought Charlery's equaliser was a little earlier than 89, if memory serves correct it was around 83 mins and the penalty was on 89.
Still my all time favourite game that had nothing in particular riding on it. Pretty sure they hit the post at 3-0 from point blank range (John McGinley?) just before we scored our first.
Mixed emotions that day - left the ground on a high after the comeback - got home to find out my cousin had been killed on the M1.
Attendance 7492, I know in the early 90s most league match attendances were below 10k but that seems particularly bad.
Anyone still in the ground at half time needs their head examined. The fact we won doesn't change that fact.
Ken Charlery always tracked back. Would rather watch him than that lazy git Deulofeu any day of the week.
I think we had a league game in the 90's where the attendance was around 4000. Think it might have been against Oxford
5 months later we played Grimsby at home in front of 5,100-losing 3-0 and causing many amongst the few of us who were there to enter the main stand and protest (as we entered the relegation zone) against "uncle" Jack Petchey. He resigned 5 days later and we then had a run of form to escape the drop. You are right-two seasons (91/92) earlier we did indeed play Oxford in front of 4,785-the average attendance that season was 8,500
That season the average attendance was 7,900 but by selling Bruce Dyer and Paul Furlong as well as having Wealdstone pay us £2.5m for a ground share that lasted hardly any time at all we managed to build both the Rookery and Vicarage Rd stands-quite a feat given those attendances but then all seater stadiums was a requirement
Alex Inglethorpe was ineffective and was subbed. Now he's Academy Director at Liverpool - another turnaround!
Oh the night we stormed the pitch. Some people I know were there ;-) Did folk really go further and get at the Directors Box as later reported?
I sat in the family enclosure just in front of the directors box and remember my Dad taking me away as it all got a bit ugly (I was only 12 or so). People definitely got into the directors box, but I think the directors had all gone down into the concourse by then.
I think some of this Board may need to apologise to R4E for attacking the Directors Box up via family stand ;-)
I still have the ball from that game, when all the craziness kicked off my mate walked out of the the ground with it.
