If you just judge each save and each goal conceded on its merits, Bachmann was doing fine, but unfortunately, his best games (save-wise) have been Leicester and Leeds away when we ended up being beaten convincingly, and his worst mistakes have been at home to Blackburn and West Brom (the latter of which he played well otherwise, tbf), two mistakes which ultimately cost us 3 points

I expect every single team in the championship could say there is games they should of won but didn't, or games they did win and wonder how they did. .we are young side who are having a good season....we are a win and a draw from the play off places..I don't think Leicester will batter us on Saturday like some people are suggesting.
The way Leicester play will suit us better than the way Cardiff play .
Then we have Norwich away a place where we have an excellent record..then Rotherham who should be there for the taking.
6 points out of the next 3 will be excellent
Regardless this season so far has been better then the last 3 or 4

Only thing I can say about this game is thankfully we don't have to play Liverpool.

I don’t subscribe to the “this is a better season” mantra. If you’ve enjoyed it more then that’s perfectly fine, but I’ve come away more often than not extremely frustrated at the teams lack of basic ability to pass a ball or to show even a modicum of composure in front of goal.

Sure there has been the odd good game, but most of the time we’ve been crap. Apart from that incredible first half against QPR in the opening game of the season, I don’t think we’ve played very well and certainly not put in a strong 90 minute performance against anyone.

As for Rotherham will be there for the taking, I think you’re in for a nasty surprise.

I wouldn't of played Sema, at least not from the start. Last thing we need is him getting injured again before he can return to the first team. However the minutes in his legs will no doubt help him back to fitness.

Kone is the player I'm worried about the most there - he's very important for us in central midfield with Kayembe missing, but he's looked knackered the last couple of games. Out of all those starting he's the other player who ideally would be rested for this (but we didn't get another CM in Jan).

No under 21's at all! Not even Roberts as sub keeper - bizarre

Or he's under instructions to go all out for the win to get a bit of tv/gate money from Anfield

Wouldn’t Dennis at least be on the bench in that case?

Anfield would bring in a decent payday. Gino has probably instructed to go as strong as we can. League is done for now, so a trip to Anfield would be a good financial bonus.

FA Cup ticket revenues is still split 50/50, right? And then there's the TV fee. Gino definitely wants us to win tonight.

True. The explanation of keeping him behind to get fit doesn't hold water with going all out for tonight so I'll retreat back into my hole

It just seems weird to sack off the whole of the under 21's but have a 16 year old on the bench

Maybe he's highly rated and we're doing it to help try and convince him to stay at the club?

Possibly. I'm just really surprised no under 21's AT ALL are on the bench, not even Roberts, especially as they have no game this week that I can see

Or have they gone on a warm weather training camp in Magaluf, team bonding over 4am raves and shots off each others stomachs

We should be resting Kone. I know he hasn't played yet this season but Grieves has been with the squad and on the bench most of the last 2 to 3 months yet isn't included this time when it's a reasonable time to play him.

I could be well into tinfoil hat territory at this point, but anecdotally in my mind haven't we seen this course of action before, and it's generally a signifier that they're being ridden into the ground purposefully with the idea in mind that they're being prepared for sale in the summer, and so it won't make any difference to us/be something we have to reckon with any of the consequences of down the line?

Very interesting data. I hope I haven't misinterpretted anything in the following.

I have added a couple of columns and sorted on them.
The first shows the Goals Saved Above Average as a percentage of the PSxG faced: (which moves Hamer up to 4th and Bachmann down to 8th)
    upload_2024-2-6_19-52-12.png

The second ranks the PSxG faced per 90 mins, i.e. what each keeper was left to deal with - which means only two keepers have had to face more per 90 minutes than Hamer: (suggesting the team were letting less get through to Bachmann than is getting through to Hamer).

    45/45 each after costs
    TV is worth about 100k
Winning tonight is worth £120k prize money
So worth about £6 or £700k in total
