As much as I'd like us to get the 3 points Ipswich have been grinding out wins all season which is quite remarkable as they were in League One last season. 1-2.
Considering the run we've been on, I think even a loss here would not feel to bad, hopefully not a slapping though. Squad morale is good at the moment and we bounced back well from defeat at Leicester (well, bar the first fifteen minutes). No real disgrace in giving the top two teams in this division a game but coming out with nothing. I didn't expect us to get anything out of Southampton but we were the better side overall on chances and probably should/could of won. Ipswich are flying high, really riding a massive wave of confidence and playing some good football. If we show them too much respect they will carve as open, but if we get a chance then lets hope we can take it also. Another draw would be a good result, meaning we would of taken five points out of three tough fixtures. I cannot see us keeping them out all game, but I do hope the mentality stays with the side and heads don't drop. We responded positively against Southampton, although I do not expect Ipswich to sit on a 1-0 goal advantage.
Be more inclined to pick Bayo over Raj against better teams where we won't get many chances, but where his pressing might force them into mistakes
Splashed the cash on a match pass and got a takeaway on its way, no idea what will happen in the game but it will be another good test for us and we have been passing those tests lately. Hopefully Ipswich will be focused on the old farm derby at the weekend.
As the season progresses it seems to me Lewis is becoming more valuable as an attacking partner to Sema. But, unless VI thinks of something, I can see Hutchinson versus Lewis being the way Ipswich win this match.
What is it with our captains? Deeney, Bachman and now Hoot become afflicted by hubris or ridiculous errors. So many chances and why doesn't the Great Dane use his left sodding foot,or any foot for that matter? Ken didn't deserve to be on the losing side, excellent corners and crosses. Encouraging signs but extremely frustrating not to have won,let alone lose.
Shame. Watford were worth a point. But, if you make elementary errors in front of your own goal, the good work will be thrown away.
We should never have lost that, we had all the chances in the world but missed every single one of them. Had the upper hand for most the game but another glaring error let's us down. Fully expecting the usually suspects to come out the woodwork after a defeat.
Thought we edged that over the 90. Gutting way to lose. Thought Sema & Asprilla both played particularly well
Back down to reality. Can’t say we were awful and mistakes for all three goals determined the result. Ipswich have players with better technique and they have a defined system, that works. That said, we could have won the game, with some better finishing and luck. Our subs had little or no impact tonight. Hoedt will be livid with that error, but these things happen. So many misplaced final balls were costly. Gutted but not angry.
I suppose it canceled out their elementary defensive mistake! We had most of the play, struggled to break them down perhaps, but worthy of a point, oh well, it's just one of those games I suppose, we've had plenty of the opposite of late!
Hoedt cost us a well deserved point there. We were well in that game and should have got something from it. It is really frustrating to lose a game that way. Wasn't overly impressed with Ipswich I was expecting a little bit more considering all of the hype about them. I am not saying they aren't a decent team but having not watched them all season and hearing plenty of people rave about them I thought they would have been a bit more dominant.
The fact Rajovic had scored several goals and Bayo doesn't look so promising is a reason Rajovic gets picked I suppose. But he achieved nothing today and, had he been more mobile/quicker to react, probably spurned 2 or 3 scoring chances.
That has left me fuming. And then I realised that it's because we deserved more and we played well, only undone by a stupid mistake and a lump of a striker who couldn't tap in a sitter And that is progress. For much of the last few years I've not really reacted to our pathetic performances. Zero emotion. The fact I'm angry is because I care again. And that's because the players care again. We may not get to the playoffs but at least we are worth watching and have a team we can get behind.
Didn't deserve to loose that but you can't gift teams goals like we did for their 2nd. Real sucker punch as we looked on top at the time. Still we probably should have scored a 2nd before then with some of the chances we created. We fizzled out after the late subs and Ipswich fairly comfortably saw the game out for the last 10 mins or so. Plenty of positives though
A good effort and a bit unlucky to lose that, thanks to a bad individual error. A point would have been a fair result. King Ken was in imperious form in the 1st half. Ipshiit couldn't handle him. Obviously the Ince substitution for Asprilla didn't work out. Almost all Ince's contributions were negative. He seemed very reluctant to shoot for some reason.
Didn't deserve to lose. For a team that have just gone top we probably edged it against them performance wise as we were the team on the front foot 2nd half after an even 1st half.
Well. We were bound to lose sooner or later with some of these late equalisers. Both team's pressing forced cheap goals whilst their other goal came from a direct run and fortunate deflection. Ultimately, it's dissapointing because we made plenty of chances but Rajovic couldn't get convert some big ones tonight, especially the corner. We played well for long periods and although taking off Rajovic was the correct decision, brining Ince on ahead of Martins was worse than making the sub at all and leaving Asprilla on and VI deserves some criticism for that decision. Hoedt will hold his hands up I'm sure and just needs to clear his head for the next game as he's been generally great in recent weeks. It happens. Still, we're in a healthy place as a team. We are competitive and pressured Ipswich well who also pressured us well. If you want a guideline of where we are as a team, that seemed a decent barometer as we matched them all the way up until the last 10 minutes when our heads dropped and Ipswich could fairly comfortably see it out at that point. We are a fringe play-off team I think but we need a more reliable cutting edge to make the case. We have to cut out these errors though as there have been 8 or more points so far that have been dropped due to not just preventable but just silly errors. Hamer I think has been decent but he also doesn't seem to save almost any shot at him at all and have no confidence there as well. I'd have Bachmann in goal next game please now now that VI's point has been made. Kaymbé looked a little off the pace which is understandable. Rajovic has played himself out the XI for a while for me now. Let Bayo start and give Healey more minutes. Don't think there's a lot more to say; decent effort with some positives and some more learnings to take away along with the natural frustration of a loss. There's no need to over react tonight as it was always going to be a marginal game.
Another pretty tight game that could have gone either way, but we're back on the defeated side this time. Ipswich clearly had more energy and ruthlessness than a side like Southampton, but I didn't think they were quite as impressive as Leicester or Leeds. Two goals gifted in that game, one by Ipswich, another by us. Hoedt has been excellent of late so I'll cut him a bit of slack for that. Then Ipswich had their first goal which was fairly similar to the one we conceded vs Southampton in that it owed a fair bit to sloppiness from a full-back. It was Andrews vs Saints, and today it was Lewis not doing enough to close down Hutchinson. At 1-1 we looked slightly the better side for a while, and should really have taken the lead when Rajovic failed to connect with what would have been an open goal from a corner. That's a few times now recently he's missed chances we'd been coming to expect him to score, and his shot which came to Asprilla for his goal also wasn't great. It's been a bit of a rough patch for him these last few games. Ismail's subs have generally been good for us of late, but I thought taking Asprilla off was the wrong call when the change was made as I thought he was still looking one of our livelier players; then to compound the issue Ince came on and had an absolutely horrendous cameo. I've said this before but I don't think Ince offers enough and his would be one of just a few spots in the squad I'd be wanting to replace in Jan. It's not a performance and result to get too downhearted about again though. If we keep up the same level of performance that we showed today and in recent weeks we should still continue to have a good season.
