Was booked in the 83rd minute after rushing up the pitch to approach the ref apparently. Trouble is he isn’t a top player so won’t get away with it either .
I think it's more the problem with making Bachmann captain to begin with than there being too much of a problem with Bachmann's attitude - he'd be less likely to do that if he wasn't the captain, but as captain I think it's fair enough to stick up for your team-mate when there's been a pretty bad tackle on them. if the GK wasn't captain they wouldn't need to run 50 yards to get involved. But also in the summer we didn't have any obvious candidates from outfield players to give the role to instead. At this point though, now that our team is established, it would probably make sense to take it from Bachmann and give it to Hoedt or Livermore.
Reading more now, it very much sounds like Val specifically set things up so an outfield players does the talking, just like I suggested, but Dim Dan threw that out of the window: https://www.watfordfc.com/news/reaction-ismael-on-leicester-city-defeat He lacks self control. And we know that because we’ve seen plenty of examples of it in previous games. Anyway, we’re in the same place about ditching him as captain, though sadly I think that’s far easier said than done.
If he's already saying "we choose one outfield player to speak with the referee in difficult situations" then whoever that player is should be the captain really.
GK and CF . The most important positions on the pitch. You can cover for a sub standard RB LB CM ....you name it . Need I say more ?
It’s bizarre that a goalkeeper, who is so terrified about coming off his goal line while the ball is in play, is so keen to go chasing off round the pitch after the referee once play has stopped.
He was doing it even when he wasn't captain. Having the armband makes no difference whatsoever. He must have been booked six or seven times in the last couple of years for having tantrums.
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/23951678.bachmann-dismissal-leads-watford-boss-think/ Good. He's not a bad egg but he does have a composure issue. Whether it's because he thinks he needs to be all bravado and try to get in the referee's ear too much or because he's just hot headed but it's clear he's not captain material mentality wise as one way or another it's gotten to him. Question is who replaces him as captain.
Got to say, this one is all on Ismael. It was a poor choice to appoint a keeper as a captain in the first place, especially one who has a reputation for losing his head. It is an inevitable consequence of something virtually everyone disagreed on within the fanbase. It’s a good thing that Val is considering a change but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place and for me is a question mark against the judgement of the manager. Even the characters who make up the leadership group are questionable. For me, Louza, Bachmann and Hamer shouldn’t be in it.
I don't think fair to say Bachmann shouldn't be in the senior leadership team. But it's also clear he isn't able to focus on his own role and perform ad captain in a balanced manner on it. It's clear he does give a **** but he let's emotions cloud his judgement too often and Leicester was one time too often and VI is now looking at an alternative option.
I think it’s questionable. Bachmann has shown he doesn’t really have good leadership credentials. He doesn’t set a good example with his constant losing of his composure. For me, you need good solid pros in that group. Caring isn’t necessarily a reason for inclusion or else you could make a case for Andrews. We don’t have too many leaders at the club so there shouldn’t really be a leadership group. Just a captain and backup captain. Only have a leadership group if the squad lends itself to it, rather than forcing unsuitable players into something they’re not equipped for.
Livermore should be captain and when his legs go after 60 minutes give it to Ken. Livermore is the only one out of this bunch that acts like a leader and Sema is just a bloody nice bloke and I’d happily have him representing us as captain.
He's not wearing the armband but it is pretty clear to me that Livermore is the captain on the pitch. Hats off to him, he's been superb at full fitness.
The captain has to be a regular starter, and Livermore, on his current form, will be, but, as you have alluded to, may not last the 90. I don't think Ken is necessarily going to be on the pitch for the last period either (nice guy and all (maybe too nice)). If not Ken, I would say Hoedt has played himself into the vice captaincy role. I have tried to put his own goal out of my mind, but it creeps back in occasionally!
He's got worse since he's been on the bench. His kicking today was the worst I've ever seen it, he's completely incompetent and has quite rightly been stripped of the captaincy.
He did make a couple of good, if not expected, saves, but I agree, with his feet he was largely shocking. However, he did play one sublime pass to Asprilla which should have resulted in a goal.
Probably due to Ben Foster leaving and his replacement, Okoye, being total rubbish in the very few games he did play. Hamer was third choice then at best. But it does prove how much better Hamer is over Bachmann despite having perhaps a couple more seasons in him. Not sure how good Roberts is, but we are stuck with Bachmann for a while.
Is it fair to say that he prevented a 0-2 score line early in the second half? Credit where it’s due. And I think he set up Asprilla for what probably should’ve been a goal. Not saying he’s better than Hamer. They’re about the same level. But I think I prefer Hamer for his calmness.
I remember playing in goal once (the one and only time, our regular keeper was absent) and we were 8-0 down after about 40 minutes. My reaction was to burst into tears and walk off the pitch into the sunset. Just like Bachmann did last night. This was for Harvey Road primary school.
I think it was a league game, but tbh they always had our number. Or was there a league at primary school? I can't remember.
Tbf I was always crap at football, I played 5 minutes for our school B team where my teammate ran into me as I was trying to make a last-ditch tackle (my speciality, if only because I was the anti-Maldini who was never in the right position to begin with!)
