I haven't seen anything. Sadly in this case I think no news is probably bad news

Hopefully not. Fingers crossed the 'old' fellow is soldiering on like the trooper he is.

I have only just seen this thread as it has come back to near the top thanks to iamofwfc posting on it.
My sincere best wishes to zzTop - he and I fell out badly and i have of course noticed his absence since my return. I always enjoyed crossing swords with him and he was an excellent poster.
As some of you might know I was absent from the board for over three years as my wife suffered a massive stroke and I just never found the time to post. Her stroke has left her unable to walk or talk properly - she has a thing called aphasia which is when the brain will not communicate with the muscles of the mouth so she knows what she wants to say but struggles to get the words out. In the three and a half years since her stroke she is now able to take a few steps with a thing called a quadstick ( a walking stick with four feet for stability) but needs me beside her when she does as she is always likely to lose her balance. Her speech is beginning to come back and she can now say short sentences but her ability to pronounce letters makes it hard sometimes to understand what she is trying to say.
I can only guess that ZZT suffered an equally horrific stroke and that may make his ability to communicate extremely dificult. If so I really hope he can make progress and one day will come back to this board so that we can resume hostilities, sorry I mean friendly exchanges.
ZZT - if anyone reads any of these messages to you please know my thoughts are with you.

As a carer, I have dealt with both aphasia and disphasia in relation to dementia. Very, very difficult it can be. I know what you're going through.

My auntie suffered similar. She new what she wanted to say but the wrong words would come out. It affected her speech and also writing, as if the brain picked a different word at random to the one required. Otherwise was unaffected it must have been frustrating as hell for her. Took the patience of a saint just to run through a shopping list with her to see what she needed.

I think anyone who has experienced somebody with a stroke understands how devastating it can be. I hope that ZZT has not suffered too badly and his delay in returning here is just due to physio and other therapy to help his recovery. I had no previous conception of what stroke victims go through.

Goodness me, Sting, what a few years it's been for you and your wife!!!

We all puddle along, and fret and worry about things that don't really matter, and then something life-changing comes along that affects us or our partner or someone in our family/extended family/circle of close friends.

Nothing prepares us for such as your wife and of course you have been through. How could it?

I sincerely hope that this rancid, toxic, bickering (but also thoroughly enjoyable!!!) forum helps in some small way to ease the angst and salve the pain, even if it's an occasional, ephemeral moment.

I don't think there has been any update on @zztop since news that he "was recovering from a stroke". Sadly I doubt that "no news is good news" and he hasn't logged in since 11/2021.

Yeah I really hope he is doing alright and has the best support he can around him. Strokes can take a long time to recover from and within the hope that ZZ is still with us, I do wish him well. He has a lot of love on this forum but I am sure he has the love of his family and friends also.

Again thanks for the support, it means a lot.
Apologies that I couldn't give you all any news earlier.
    :)
I have heard recently he has been on the way to recovery.
He has used a cane to help his balance for mobility and he has had anti seizure medication.
He has recently returned to work and hopefully he will be posting here again soon.

It was an ischemic stroke. His daughter found him quickly and he was transported straight to hospital. They did a brilliant job in stopping the bleeding. He was visited by his family the next day and he was in good spirits. It has been almost two years now and there are encouraging signs to this day

Excellent news and so glad he is slowly on the mend. He still has a lot of wise words of wisdom to give - and is doing the right thing taking it one step at a time with a lot of love and support around him. Thanks for the continued updates on his progress as always.

Hi Knight GT. Want to apologize that I haven't posted for a while.
I felt it wasn't a good idea to post anything on this forum until I receive positive news about ZZtop, it would have felt a little bit empty and inappopriate

Thank you so much for this update. With such personal experience of the effects of a stroke it means so much to know he is recovering - slowly but surely. Look forward to his return too
