#ITK (lol). I think @LouOrns mentioned Brighton being interested months ago and it made a lot of sense. It will definitely have to be a transfer record for Brighton (Mwepu I believe is their highest fee at £21m) but let’s hope it ‘smashes’ their transfer record. Hopefully it also gives us an inside track on loans or deals for their backup players. They have some excellent young players who could be available on loan or even permanent. A number of players who were crowded out at Brighton have excelled subsequently. Gyokeres is one example. Ostigard, Clarke, Andres Dreyer others.
As long as we get a good deal it's a good move all-round really. Excellent club for him to sign for. Does make me question whether I actually want a season ticket left as he is virtually the only enjoyment I get out of watching Watford currently.
I’m not so sure. Wait and see but I’m bracing to hear it’s a deal with the potential to break their transfer record, if certain performance-related clauses are triggered in the coming years. Romano was wrong about him going to Newcastle too, so I guess there’s still scope for a bidding war.
Totally get your point, but I can't imagine you'd say you've really been receiving much of that from him for the past couple of months, either, in truth. So buckle up - you're already practiced in watching unending drudgery and no goal threat whatsoever - the King is dead, long live the King!!!
I think it's an excellent move for him and probably just the right level of a step up that he needs at this stage of his career.
Another one who's mostly been completely underwhelming. Not to Sarr's level, but still underwhelming. Has actually also gone beyond just underwhelming into being mostly complete and utter crap for a good while. A year ago I thought I might be sad to see him go, but... Bye.
Brighton spending just under half the money they got for a defender who only played for them for a year on Joao Pedro. But of course, according to our owners and their advocates, there’s no money in defenders in this day and age.
Mwepu came in and was a first-team regular when fit, I genuinely don't know if we can say that for JP, I obviously don't follow them religiously, but it would seem a stretch to suggest he'd walk straight into the first team of a team challenging for Europe. Then again there is English club (and homegrown!) tax, so yeah, I'd imagine something like an initial £20m rising to £30m
Oof, that’d be a tough for Leventhal to swallow since he claimed we’d want ‘far more’ than £30m. That or we’re desperate.
Gutted really.. the only glimmer of hope we had this season. He may have had off day’s, but Jesus Christ, at least he showed a bit of passion and footballing ability. Unlike the rest of em
Top quality player with a huge future. Hopefully based on Fabrizio’s tweet with Brighton acting quickly before other “important” clubs went for him, we got a very a large fee. Obviously it would be great to get £40mil+, however I think it will be £30-35mil. Just hoping there’s a large percentage sell on.
Hopefully it's a nice big juicy fee we can reinvest straight into the paying (off our mountains of debt) squad.
Makes sense to try get this done early (fee dependent but we will never know what that is) so that we can get our business done early. We have probably seen his last game in a Watford shirt, not worth risking an injury.
Not been at his best for a while, but I don’t blame him. He’s had s*** circumstances (Covid, Dad passing away), s*** teammates and about a dozen s*** head coaches ever since he arrived here. Been our most talented player at a young age without ever being properly coached or developed. At a well-run club, under someone like De Zerbi, he can go to another level for sure.
If this guy was as good as the hype why has he scored and created fhuc all in a truly dreadful league? Would you pathetic terds be pulling your puddings over him if he's John Peter's from Grimsby?
Will be undisclosed but likely to be c£20m plus adds ons for appearances, goals, European qualification etc. The best player at a mid table champ side, I think he should be capable of holding down a place in a mid table prem side.
In hindsight it was a mistake to keep him and Sarr, you can see the logic in terms of trying to get promotion, but when you create an environment where you have at least three managers per season the players get less and less motivated over time.
Can't begrudge the lad a move, apparently a club record fee for Brighton so expecting it to be around the 25/30m mark. Hopefully they chuck in one of Ayari, Buonanotte or Enciso on loan as part of the deal.
Looks like the fee is around £30m. Probably €30m, which is around £26.44m. Fabrizio Romano @FabrizioRomano · 11m João Pedro deal is done since yesterday, not now. It will be official soon, contract being signed with Brighton prepared to unveil their new star. #BHAFC Fee will be close to £30m — personal terms agreed. No doubts as revealed here yesterday night. Here we go confirmed.
All I can do is offer him the very best wishes and all the luck in the world, Brighton is a club on the up and I think they will look after him very well. Looks like a good deal for everyone. I will miss him floating past three or four opposition players though. Mostly has been a joy to watch.
No chance of Enciso or Buonanotte. Ayari possibly. Maybe grab one or two of the youngsters they have out on loan like Karbownik at left back, Peupion in central midfield.
