Its like when someone at work has a day off for a "dentists appointment" then hands in their resignation later in the week.
Not seen his in depth stats but from what I've seen from him he's not awful defensively. Playing with a back three I don't think it would matter as much, especially as in a lot of games I'd hope we'd be the side on the front foot for the majority of the game.
Nothing will ever upset that guy. If we played our entire academy against Sheff Utd he’d be enthusing we’re giving youth a chance.
Sorba Thomas played more games at RWB last season than any other position. 3 goals and 7 assists there in 19 appearances. He’s also an incredible set piece taker. I’d have reservations about him even in a back five in the PL but that’s not a problem for now. Only issue is he signed a new contract 2 months ago so don’t know how much he’d cost. Drameh is less raw than Ebosele and much much less raw than Mabaya. He was a real standout at Cardiff last season. Mabaya has no senior appearances and only 1 seemingly in the PL2.
To be fair, he's just a kid in many respects and has been given large access to the club - he annoys me by changing direction as much as he does (his posts about Cucho just days apart were too funny) - but I dare say I'd be exactly the same in many regards at his age if Watford had allowed me the access he's been awarded.
Personally think it would be pointless spending a big sum on Sorba Thomas if there's a chance Sarr stays. May as well just employ him as a RWB who doesn't have to defend. If we are spending a decent amount, Nandez is who I would want. Can cover a number of positions where we are light on quality.
Come on people this has all been planned for in the last week. The starters will be Kamara RWB, Sema LWB with Ngakia, Hungbo and Morris providing the backup. There's not a thing any of us can do about it. All this stuff about a new RWB is nonsense, Edwards knows it which is why he's been trying Kamara on that side.
Where has he stated it even once, let alone many times? There were/are a few bigger clubs interested which makes it pretty unlikely - thats where its at.
Kiko in the championship was exceptional. Kiko in the premiership was a liability. We are now in the championship so he will be sorely missed. All the best Kiko.
Eh? I don't follow. I've been courteous to everyone I've interacted with today! You've made a factual statement regarding a player stating many times that he's not interested in coming here, so I asked where he has stated that? I have searched for the articles and I can't find any - so if you've read them, where can I find them as I'd genuinely like to see them?
Yeah, I did google it - and again, no articles. If you can't find them or misunderstood the articles that are available, fair enough! I'm not trying to catch you out - as you seem to think I am - I genuinely would like to read about what you're claiming because he's a player I'd like us to press for so if he's quoted as saying he has no interest, I'd like to see what he had to say. Can you link them?
I too have googled. There is a difference between a reporter saying “Watford are interested but Nandez is not convinced by the project” and Nandez repeatedly stating, as you have seemingly alleged, either in interviews or in social media “Watford? No - thank you. That doesn’t appeal at all.” I have seen much of the former and none of the latter.
I think we've made our big money signing for the summer with Bayo. Everything else will be shoestring. Maybe Edu could chuck us this guy on loan after we gave his son a pointless contract? Can cover either flank, very attacking for a full back, decent half season loan in League 1 and looks able to stand up to physical demands of senior football...
No this is a no-brainer. But why go for the obvious option when we can send Uncle Mogi a few million for a 29 year old backup player from Zulte Waregem?
I like Norton-Cuffey and would have very very happily taken him as an option to rotate with/serve as backup to Kiko. Not quite sure he’s ready to be a promotion-chasing side’s starting RWB though.
Gonna be absolutely hilarious when he turns into prime Cafu next season, and picks up a La Liga winners medal alongside Estupinan and Capoue, all while we’ve got Cleverley playing RWB.
Great player when fit and on form. 5 years service for a free transfer and to then get a fee is good business and good luck to him. I just hope Rob Edwards gets a suitable replacement in today.
The players that we want to replace Kiko are probably at a PL club, and won’t become available until late in the window, when it’s confirmed that they haven’t made their squad. Not going to judge this window until the end, as we’re likely to see a few twists and it won’t all be bad news (hopefully)
I’m not sure I subscribe to the whole he’d be the best RB in the championship by a mile spiel. He’s out of his depth a league higher and 31 and getting more and more injury prone, so only getting worse. To say he’d be the best RB in the league suggests 23 other clubs can’t produce or find a RB capable of playing in the PL, when in fact the league regularly produces players like Matty Cash. This is not a dig at him, it’s just a dig at suggesting the championship can’t produce anything better than Kiko in that position, when in fact it regularly does. It’s pretty bold to suggest not one RB from 23 teams will have a breakout season. There are plenty of younger players with higher ceilings out there.
I see Cyrus Christie hasn’t found a club yet, if we want someone on a free. Young but Marlon Fossey, has one year left on his contract so could be cheap, he did well in his games for league 1. Not sure what stats look like.
Seems pretty clear, to me at least, he's a lower mid table PL level player, who has been consistently placed in woeful defences, that do nothing to hide the weaknesses in his game. He can be weak in the tackle, his awareness isn't the best, and he won't win many headers. But he rarely loses a foot race, is fairly good at stopping crosses, and of course has the attacking talent we've seen when he's given a decent winger pairing to work with. Every single time he's linked with a move a way, it's almost exclusively La Liga clubs who want him. I'm not sure that would be the case if he was out of his depth in the PL.
Overrated, injury prone and past it. We need to get in fit, hard working ambitious young players to replace lazy individuals like Sarr.
Don't have a problem with moving him on, it's probably time, but bringing in someone to replace him that is an actual RWB is just too much to expect from this club isn't it?
He's barely featured so suspect this has been on the cards as suggested by @Burnsy so imagine it won't affect us that much. Heck of a move for Femenia though
I'm sorry but this could have been sorted months ago. Lessons absolutely not learned - Estupinan played the last friendly against Spurs and was gone before the opener. Masina was already injured and we were left wanting for months until his return at Christmas. The best HG options have now gone and no way are we paying the HG premium to sign what we need. Same old ****. Edwards will be gone by Christmas because he's yet another manager that hasn't been given the tools to do the job. Was he hired only because he's young and English? No consideration to system? Transfers so far would suggest so because I don't see any plan to convert from 433 to wing-backs.
