Yesterday it was much easier to get into stands and follow certain popular players than it has been previously. Royal St Georges is a good course for spectators anyway, but having 25% less people made it really easy to find any vantage spot we wanted. The only disadvantage was that they had less catering areas than normal with really bad and unhealthy choices, I wish I'd taken my own food/drink in.
How much did you pay. @Diamond? I don't play golf - well, not since I was a teenager - but do enjoy watching it and quite fancy a day at the Open, probably once I have retired (alongside my regular trips to county cricket).
£80 for the ticket, £60 for travel, (there and back in a day), fish and chips with a drink was £13, a steak burger was £10, £3.50 for a coffee when the queue eventually went down. Didn't buy a program for £10 or visit the hugely overpriced shop. Once inside you don't have to pay for anything as you can take your own food in.
I stood in a spot where Brooks Koepka walked by and have no doubt he would kick Brysons backside in a fight!
I don’t really blame them for the amounts of cash involved, everyone has their price. I just wish they’d all be honest about it, Mickelsons interview was just plain embarrassing.
Rory has it spot on regarding this new golf tour funded by Saudi Arabia. Mind you the main usual golf tours don’t seem that bothered as they have let the players join and still play in the majors . Bit like the Newcastle fans - they don’t care where the money is from as long as it’s theirs . Didn’t realise that the first event is in Hertfordshire! Or rather as all the media outlets say “near London “
Well the PGA have banned players now but nit sure if that includes next week’s tournament? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/61746560
I know all about the Saudis and they’re awful people who do awful things, but they have an awful lot of money which I’m awfully fond of.
Geez watching the golf over the last few tournaments feels like it's turning into Happy Gilmore with the unruly crowds!
Amazing win last night for Matt Fitzpatrick at the US Open. It was literally edge of the seat stuff for most of the round with the worlds best battling it out. Such a shame the US coverage of it was so utterly sh*te.
Chucked a couple of quid on McIlroy to be end of round leader tonight. Quadruple bogied the 12th! Edit: and now a double bogey! Man's having a shocker.
And not a Liv or a Yank. Excellent back to back run of birdies. Rooting for Rory but his putting wasn’t on it today. Worst round of the tournament. Shame, would have liked to see him win.
Yep, but maybe not for long. There’s a lot of noise around Smith and Scott signing up for LIV and he didn’t exactly deny it in the press conference afterwards
Not a golf fan but was he the one that went into the lead on the 18th? If so he gave you a run for your money.
For all of 60 seconds, yes. He was in Smith’s 2-ball and one of the best putters in the world had a 2 foot putt for the win, straight after Young’s great eagle
Only watching because of the Norwegian fella Hovland. But ultimately under immense pressure they all played outstanding golf.
He was second to Cam Smith coming in to the 18th. He eagled the 18th which put him level with Smith but unfortunately Smith birdied it so lost by a shot! Had it each way so got £60 but would have been around £500 had he won
