https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/e...-city-player-ahead-of-summer-transfer-window/ Supposedly ourselves and Brighton interested in the Swansea striker. 11 goals in 29 games this season.
He’s a good player and the type of striker we should be targeting. But would likely cost £10m+. Cant see us spending that much.
I thought we should have signed him on loan last time we were in the Champ. As mentioned above he'd obviously cost a lot more now and prob too much. https://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/transfer-talk-suggestions.54511/page-74#post-2935196
I thought he’d be £10m+ but some Swansea fans on Twitter seem to think it would be more like £7-8m. He’s a good player but that would almost certainly be too much and if somehow we do have that sort of amount to spend on a transfer fee I think we could probably find better abroad.
And then not picking him up for £1.5-2m like Swansea did. Kalu reportedly cost £3m by the way, in case you were wondering.
His older brother was with us till 16. Attended Harefield. Not offered a Scholarship and went to Leyton Orient. Made a couple of 1st team appearances but then disappeared down the Non League pyramid.
Yes the lad judged not good enough for the PL by Southampton with 11 Championship goals to his name was definitely good enough for our PL squad
He was with us for about the same time as Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka and they didnt turn out too bad. Not being offered a place in an academy at 14 is no judge. his brother was with us till 16 and should of got a scholarship but wasnt felt he applied himself (to be kind) and ended up also at Orient which is as high as he got. As a 14, 15, 16 he was believed to be better than Michael, time has shown that as Seniors that opinion was miles away. Incidentally, in his brothers team, we also had Dom Ball (QPR), Keshi Anderson (Blackpool) also both released. Ball was given a scholarship at Spurs at 16 after his release. Liam O'Nien was also in that side who we did give a scholarship and is currently at Sunderland and played nearly 150 games.
So you're saying anyone good enough for us was nabbed by bigger clubs, and everyone else is lucky to have a half decent career at League 1 level or below?
Statistics will tell you that is correct. Though the point being made was just because we released him and he went to Leyton O at 14, doesn't mean he was/is **** because one of the powerhouses never picked him up straight away. On the otherhand we don't spend the money on our academy due to the fact that our potential best players tend to move on to a Chelsea or Man City before they are 16. There was a reference to both Affy and Michael going to Leyton Orient after being released by us and this being a backwards step and on the face of it due to the relative 1st team status/positions this seems reasonable. But reality is, that at that point of both their careers and being nowhere near 1st team football due to age it was a sideways move. Leyton Orients academy has been on the same level as ours since 2011 and probably better at this moment.
Hmm, a well run club Prem club on the up or a basket case of a club that has just been relegated and has a poor reputation in the game, decisions decisions.
