A goal and an assist for him, played well and hope he gets more starts this season.

Possibly lacks the electric pace that would make him a world beater, but overall I think he's got the potential to be an excellent player.

Consider the dog **** side he's had to play in during his adaption to a totally new league, I think he's come on massively. Has that unpredictability that really sets him apart.

I am pleased for Cucho. He's very likeable, gives his all and wants to lead from the front!

I think it's fair to say in his career he has been plagued with injuries which have held him back, usually just when he starts to move in the right direction!

Let's hope he stays fit AND stays in the team, because he's a hell of a player to have!

Cucho has all that Dennis hasn’t, tenacity, unselfish and looks like he really wants to be here!

As I conjectured in the match thread, Cucho is now indeed our joint-second top scorer, and comes out on top in light of having joint-most goals and assists in fewer minutes played:

    upload_2022-3-13_19-14-17.png

Now, whisper it, but the potential issue/risk-reward with this lovely flowering of a player I've supported visually for a great many years is that his record is suddenly threatening to look rather good at Premier League level.

He has 5 goals and 3 assists in the league in just a tiny smidge over 1000 minutes played so far this season (1002). King, by comparison, has achieved the same record having been given almost exactly double the amount of time on the pitch (1970); often whilst playing as a centre forward to boot. Not to mention, the literal majority of King's goals came in one single insane collapse of a match.

An entire season (minus injury time, etc) adds up to 3420 minutes, so theoretically, if you take his record and extrapolate it out, Cucho would be on course to register somewhere around 15 goals and 10 assists. Now, of course, football doesn't necessarily work like that, for a multitude of reasons. But regardless, there's been a lot of talk about how Cucho could potentially be our USP in the Championship should the worst/likely come to pass, and that he should do well at that level. But how many more goals and assists would he have to register before the end of this season to start looking like a prime candidate to be plucked from our ranks at a relegation-cut price by a current rival, or one of the newly-promoted lot?

We've been talking about Dennis' record, but arguably Cucho's is already respectable for a wide forward/winger, particularly given how poor a team he is playing for, and anything he adds from here given his time on the pitch is potentially very impactful.

Essentially, what I'm saying is that he might just be gearing up to play himself into a previously unexpected nice little move as we disappear through the trapdoor

Of course, he might also be gearing up to play us into a previously unexpected miraculous survival

Only time will tell (but it's not very likely)

*One caveat I've realised I have to add to that table is that it's all competitions - Cucho has 5 goals and 2 assists in the league, compared to King's 5 goals and 3 assists.

Cucho is a great personality. The only surprise is that it's taken a long time before we can see his qualities (ok not including the instant impact against Villa). He's a very good player, and is finally showing the form I expected from him. Today, he was everywhere. Could, and probably should, have had a hattrick.

Most importantly he wants to be here (not just "in the PL") and has a bit of pride for the shirt. Even when he was awaiting work permits for years he was showing an interest in being here eventually. Star man.

I have to say, I think I was wrong about him, apart from an iconic debut goal, I thought he was a bit lacking in end product (if certainly not effort and application), but he's really playing well now, scoring at a rate of a goal every 200 mins in the Prem now!

Have we given a cucho a song yet?

Very likeable player, puts the effort in. Get Forestieri feels from him.

Yes, it’s the very imaginative White Stripes ‘oh Cucho Hernandez’ which I’m pretty sure is the chant for every single one of our players now.

There was another one for Cucho sung on Sunday but can't remember it now. At least we have some other songs. Southampton literally sung nothing apart from "O when the Saints go marching in"

2nd best shot accuracy in the side and 2nd best goal conversion. Fewest mins per goal, most goals per 90 by some distance.

We don't see them in training of course, but I remain surprised that he didn't get at least one or two 20 minute cameos during King's drought.

What was his injury on Saturday? I suppose it’s typical that the only remotely likeable footballer we have is now out for a lengthy period.

The Wobby suggested it was a hamstring injury. That'll be him done until October so we might keep hold of him.

I don't hate him, and stating that he's not as good as Toney is just obvious.

The only players to have hit such scoring records in the Champ are Toney and Mitrovic; Cucho does not have it in him to do that, pens or not.

What I like about Cucho, apart from that he appears to genuinely care, is that there is a purpose about his game i.e. either an attempt on goal or setting up a team mate , as opposed to others who are more interested in 'megs than scoring . Given that he is still only 21 he definitely has the potential for the future .
