King can hold the ball up as well as anyone we’ve had, but there is nobody else like Igahlo that can score.
He can, but he doesn't. They're playing the ball into space in front of King which is HIS game but isn't the game of Kucka, Cleverley, Sissoko and Kayembe! They're all 40 yards behind the play when King gets into the channels! What's the point? He ends up totally isolated against 4 or 5 players.
Yeah I get what you’re saying, I misunderstood and thought you meant he wasn’t good at hold up but I think he’s actually very good at holding up, but like you say that doesn’t play to his strengths.
Row z it actually . Which technically is harder which makes Andre a better player than Josh Touche !!
He's a definite upgrade on Gray and Deeney. I think he's far better with options to pass to, and it's no surprise he's gone downhill since Sarr got injured. Not prolific but then that seems to be the norm for centre forwards these days
He offers far more in link-up play than Gray or Deeney did in latter years because he’s more intelligent with the ball whilst able to keep up with those either side of him. But he does have bouts of anonymity where he just offers very little. I still like him as a striker but there can be no doubt about 2 things: 1. He desperately needs a goal. 24 games and he has scored in 3. Not good enough. 2. We need to bring in competition for him in the summer. He’s on easy street as far as selection goes.
He's decent, but like most centre forwards outside the top 6 offers fark all in terms of actually scoring goals. Without an option like Sarr he's been very isolated.
Was definitely involved more on Saturday, perfect through ball for Sissoko who smashed it wide and was unlucky with his chance, bad miss or good save? The good thing is that he was showing instinctive movement to get to the ball first. Yes as others said he needs a goal.
Great ball for Sissoko (Gray was not capable of that) and unlucky with his point blank effort (Deeney wouldn’t have been anywhere near that position). He’s still not great, but until this season our PL striker options were mid table championship standard at best, apart from Welbeck who Pearson wouldn’t pick.
Yes of course we all want that. But there was an improvement in him. He still has decent touch even when he's under pressure. He's not going to win every challenge when the balls smashed towards him. The final ball from him and to him needs to further improve in the final third.
Needs to score more goals admittedly but he does hold the ball up well which allows us to keep the ball after we have been under pressure.
I'm probably biased by watching him at youth level and thinking he was a top talent, but I still like him and believe he can succeed here. He has shown quality at times with his positioning and link up play and looks very much like a confidence player to me. If we can give him a morale boost (and I think Roy can do that) I think he could become a good signing with King and Dennis either side of him. Ideally though, JP would be more consistent and provide greater competition for the starting 11 place.
I do feel now the days of expecting your centre forward to bang in the goals are long behind us. I mean just look at the top scorer charts. Vardy is the only out and out striker on the list and he's scored 9. The rest are all attacking midfielders and wingers. No doubt King could score more. But he should be judged on his hold up play more than his goals
He did play well on Saturday overall - as did most of the side. Either side of their keeper right at the end and it's 2-0. He is working hard and does get into better positions than tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb did - and eventually the goals will come. Dennis is more mobile, whereas King is more of a typical bruiser CF.
Don’t be so silly Manat, Gray wouldn’t have been able to bring the ball under control to be able to make the pass, it would’ve pinged off his shin to the opposition.
King reminds me a bit of Deeney with his hold up play, but currently no end product. Dennis usually out wide left cutting in and Sarr doing similar other side with some quality crossing to boot. Not got a goalscoring box man at the moment.
As I've said if he still played for us, examples would've been forthcoming. The pinging that you describe didn't happen 100% of the time, that would be impossible otherwise his game time would not exist.
Gray was a horrendous imitation of a footballer. You’re never going to convince me or anyone else on here otherwise, as hard as you bizarrely try to.
The usual generalisation lack of intelligence response having not digested what I actually said. Never mind.
That's how I see it too. Outside of the scoring bits, I think he actually does alright. He works hard, tracks back, does his fair share of intercepting/breaking up play and seems capable of playing some nice passes. Then he gets near the opposition box and it all falls apart. A little bit of confidence and I think we'd see a much better Josh King, but unfortunately I'm not sure where he gets that confidence outside of suddenly doing the thing he's having so much trouble doing at the moment: scoring.
Unconvinced by a very long way. Missed an absolute sitter from 1 yard out on Saturday. No shots at all v Brighton soon forgotten. How long do we persist with a centre forward who never scores and rarely has shots? Once JP is back, King needs dropping for one of Dennis/Cucho/Fletch/JP down the middle.
A sitter is harsh. Good movement, good connection but also an excellent save. I thought he showed a vast improvement on recent showings.
Was it an ‘excellent’ save? Martinez literally just shaped to block it as that’s the only option he had and the ball was fired at him. I agree it wasn’t a sitter - but King should have done better than just hit the ball at the one place the GK was obviously going to be.
That's fair enough, excellent positioning from the keeper is a better option. I believe the ball was slightly behind him and would of done better probably if he hadn't connected so well with the ball. An Andre Gray scuff could of seen it trickle in. Anyways I'm not so worried about him missing, I'm happy that Sarr put in the delivery of which I want him to do so much more and that King was alive to the situation. We created chances unlike the Brighton game. If you give King chances like that he will score a decent percentage.
Bizarre that you are still spending time defending one of our worst ever signings even after he has left. Very strange behaviour.
