Yes, he was really very, very good back then. Then Man Utd started playing him out of position all the time and the injuries kicked in.
Jones is a top player . Only the unenlightened do not realise this. If he stays fit , a big if , and if we pull this off, then this would be a massive signing for us . BTW people who judge a player on a "gurning" foto probably guess the roadworthyness of a car by kicking the tyres
Sir Alex Ferguson said he could have been the next Duncan Edwards (late Busby Bare who died so young)
Yeah, it's a minimum of 8 over 21 players, and we're well over it even now. Would like to think that won't be a stumbling block over any potential move for Panzo
I like to give the benefit of the doubt to the club but this is one signing I'd really struggle to get behind.
Putting a marker in here just to see the thread swing to optimistic praise of this once it becomes more likely.
Yes, he's good. But it won't matter if he doesn't play. We're just not in a position to take a risk on him right now, unless he's willing to sign for peanuts. With a financial situation like our current one we can't afford a highly paid long term sicknote.
I don't feel quite as apprehensive about Jones seeing as there probably won't be an immediate need for any new CB given that Sierralta is staying put and WTE might not be playing in Cape Verde, but Jesus Christ he'd still be a gamble, and probably an expensive one too, much much much rather we go for Panzo
Toon are currently looking like favourites to sign PJ on loan, so hopefully we won't have to worry about him clogging up our treatment room.
God help the poor souls who still think he's **** after we've signed him. The clappers will be gunning for them
Don't think this has been mentioned yet, but Josh King is also homegrown, so there's another one for the quota.
Phil Jones would be an abysmal signing. Man Utd pressure?! He has been the weak link every time I've ever seen him. Slow, ponderous and dumb on the ball. We may have well converted Deeney to centre half. Nothing to do with guring faces or looks (why is that relevant?) He is just abysmal. Throw on top of that an injury record worse than Danny Wellbeck and his glass joints. No No No No No No No please for the love of god, No.
This is the Watford check list for central defenders:- Bad injury record - TICK At least 30 years old within the next few months - TICK Not played for 2 years - TICK Crap at football - TICK Thoroughly nice chap - TICK More ticks that and flea infected hedgehog.........Welcome to Watford Phil.
It would be a typical Watford signing. I think if Jones was fit then he'd be a very decent player for us, unfortunately the poor guy has had horrendous luck with injuries and it doesn't sound like his body is able to play at the top level anymore.
imo he is significantly better than we have ..... we need to build his confidence up as the fella has been harshly treated by utd fans and the media .... he has been injury free for 18 months now - this could be shrewd business as he needs a move away to a lower profile team with less pressure
https://www.manutd.com/en/amp/news/detail/phil-jones-discusses-return-from-injury-on-utd-podcast He most certainly has not been injury free for 18 months. He himself said he was only ‘approaching’ fitness and just started training less than 2 months ago. And was ready to retire at one point during lockdown.
