Pretty astonished at some of the posts here. The player himself has said he is ill, the club have verified this and yet there are still posts seemingly doubting his absence. Surely anyone with a shred of decency is going to accept that he is ill and wish him the best in his recovery.

If he has long covid then I wish him the best in his recovery.

    Feel better soon Nathaniel.

Yeah, why would anyone doubt the legitimacy of this "illness" in regards to a player who has been widely reported as stalling on a new contract and potentially looking for a way out of the club.

I’m not going to rise to it Nath. I trust the word of the player and the club over someone like leventhal any day of the week.

If he says he is ill, and the club back him up in that then that’s good enough for me and I think it should be for any Watford fan.

I look forward to seeing him back and healthy on the pitch soon, whether that’s in a Watford kit or another teams colours.

See more hate for Nate than the albino when it is fact he is trying to leave and all things suggest Chalobah is genuinely ill. Weird.

In what world has there been "more hate for Nate"? Hughes has been getting shredded day in, day out on here with far more regularity than anything anyone's had to say about Chalobah.

Not sure what you have been reading. Nate is probably ill/unfit, but we know he's been training with the first team and the fans are OK with that. As I suggested yesterday it's possible that he has told the club he just wants to play out his contract, not looking to move yet and happy to play his part in the meantime. Most fans would be OK with that.

Hughes has been the main target of fans' wrath because he has obviously said something behind the scenes that has led to him training with the U23s.

He's been training the whole of pre-season without playing and as soon as the season starts he's ill, you can see why people might be suspicious.

Now he could be ill of course and I'm sure everyone wants him to get well soon, but it's also possible that both the player and club have gone down this route to avoid a continuous barrage of questions about his absence.

I’m not sure I agree with that, there is definitely something different between Hughes and Chalobah’s situation, but publicly Hughes is saying exactly what you’re suggesting Chalobah’s has said.

I think the way Gino works suggests if a player won’t sign a new deal with a year left, he attempts to sell them and marginalises them regardless of whether they’re happy to stay for their final year or not.

Hughes doesn't sign new contract, club pretends he doesn't exist. Nate doesn't want to sign a new contract, club make up story he's ill, a lie which he is complicit in for some reason?

At a guess I’d say Chalobah hasn’t signed a new deal as it’s ongoing and this mystery illness is more than likely why, or at the very least it’s caused a delay. Even if the illness didn’t exist it could just be negotiations are ongoing. If he has or is genuinely ill then it will be very likely us stalling, as much as it could be him.

Hughes has refused our best and final deal, so it’s clean cut. Different circumstances and different treatment.

I just can’t imagine we’d have signed Tufan if we still thought Chalobah would sign a new deal.

I think we need another midfielder still so it could work out well if Chalobah stays. Kucka, Etebo, Louza, Tufan, Cleverley and Chalobah could be decent but even that group still looks a bit weak if we get injuries. I haven't counted Quina because he'll leave and hopefully the same for Gosling.

Does seem a little weird because he hasn’t featured in any of the pre season games at all .

Has been ill all that time or was he still injured from last season and then picked up illness just as he recovered from injury .

The second one (is what the club is telling us).
There was definitely an update to say he missed early friendlies because of his injury from the end of last season though.

Impossible to say if that’s genuinely been the case.

Or just being ignored as he doesn’t want to stay but there hasn’t been the same interest from others ?

Mind you it is Chalobah so probably has been injured !

    Went to St George’s I think .

I'm sure in the build up to the Brighton game they said he had diarrhoea?

I thought that was remarkably open and frank but sure I didn't dream it As I distinctly remember thinking surely they could have come up with something less graphic than that.

Long bout of sh1ts though if true.

I thought the club said “illness” and some joker on here substituted diarrhoea for that.

You may well be right but sure that's what they said on the TV, had a list (may have been a banner), JP knee, Chalobah diarrhoea etc....

Either they got that from here then or I've been eating cheese before bed again.

Generally like a bit of a mixed board. If I haven't managed to get any artisan type stuff would be a soft (brie or camenbert maybe) a blue (dolcelatte, roquefort or stilton), firm (could be many but probably yarlsberg, leerdammer or a cheddar) and probably a goats of some description.

I can be flexible though, especially if I get to the farmers market and the cheese man turns up!

Homemade pickled onions, cornichon and probably oat cakes. Quince jelly for a treat if I can find any.

Hopefully he doesn't have long covid because who knows what the recovery period would be especially if it's damaged his lungs.

Obviously hopefully whatever it is he's on the road to recovery

I remember Dominic Blizzard was out with a long term illness
