Psh, not sure that's even a step up.

Don't see any chance of it happening unless they offer crazy money, which I'd be surprised if they could.

Must sell if this is true, his stock will never be higher than it is right now.

I imagine Bachmann would be open to a move that gives him a higher salary than the 3rd choice keeper contract he has here. Gino would probably rather invest a 5 year deal in a keeper with proven quality at the top level.

I hope we dont sell him as I can only see him getting better but European competition must be tempting for him.

Not if he continues his form into the Prem.

Supposedly we've been negotiating this summer to get him a new contract, this story could even just be agent talk to try and get an improved offer.

Giving big contracts to Almunia, Gomes, and Foster suggests otherwise. Karnezis and Pantillimon also had exposure to playing at high level.

I don't see us agreeing to pay Bachmann more than 25K a week

I'm of the opinion that having an excellent keeper only really matters when you're a team at the top end of the competition you're in. For teams in the lower half of a table, a competent keeper is usually enough; the couple of goals a better keeper might save you are unlikely to make much of a difference to your season, since you face more shots and concede far more, so the overall percentage impact of stopping 2-3 more is lessened. For a team conceding 20 goals a season, reducing that total by 2-3 is far more impactful.

On that basis if we got a large offer for Bachmann I think we'd probably get more bang for our buck reinvesting it in an outfield player than by retaining him. I suspect the overall delta between him and Foster would be nominal in practice, and unlikely to shape our season one way or another.

Not sure about that, with the amount of shots we'll inevitably have to face this season, we need as good a keeper as we can get, and that's probably Bachmann

I fear this could become like Arsenal's goalkeeping situation, they had a decent #1 who got injured, their longtime deputy comes in and does really well, only to sell him with their previous #1 having slipped. Now they're desperately searching for a new #1 who they'll have to fork out more than they got for Martinez, but who's nowhere near as good. It would worry me if we go into the season with Foster in goal, he was already starting to make the odd mistake before he got injured, and we'll certainly need someone else before too long. Is Dahlberg anywhere near ready? I don't even think he's been playing in the pre-season friendlies...

Big contracts as in wages - Almunia was our highest paid player when he arrived. Sure Gomes and Foster have earned good salaries too.

That's a bad take. Countless teams have survived in the Premier League as a result of having an excellent keeper. Gomes kept us clear of a relegation battle in 15/16.

Countless? I label that hyperbole. ;)

Sell him. I genuinely think he's shyt.

We have a worse team now in every position than when we last got promoted (apart from Sarr, who will never play for us again by the way).

How has it come to this?

Swapping Henderson for Ramsdale certainly had an impact on Sheffield Utd

If it involved getting André Onana coming our way I'd be happy. Foster would have to be number one though until his ban finishes.

I like Bachmann and am confident he won’t let us down. He’s clear of Foster these days and we should only consider selling for silly money (£20m min).

Dahlberg’s waiting in the wings to be #1 next season anyway.

We should get of him to any team that makes a realistic offer.
I do not rate him and he will cost us goals with his failure to command his area.

    Sell, sell , sell.

    Thank you.
I have been a critic of Bachmann for a long time. I have never hidden this.
Listen to the pitch side microphones during the covid19 games.
No matter how close the ball is to him in the box (in the air) his first call is "away". He will never come out for it.
In the Premier league we will not get away with this.
He is good with his feet, which l am told many coaches now look for this in a keeper. Angelini is reputed to be excellent with the ball at his feet. One for the future possibly.
It is rumoured we are after another young keeper. We do like signing goalkeepers.
I feel our transfer dealings have poor or mediocre at best.
