My local cinema is also an indy. Its a 1930 art deco with one screen, downstairs stalls and upstairs balcony. Its like going back in time to when I went to the cinema as a kid. Its got 2 seater bench back seats still. Dirt cheap as well.

Watching films in that sort of environment elevates them. Like yours ours has one screen, so you’re not spoiled for choice. It’s nice to just see what’s on, it’s generally not the latest blockbuster but something with less fanfare. I love that they do movie marathons over weekends and show classic horrors at Halloween too.

Any of you who studied in Nottingham probably know The Savoy in Lenton. I practically used to live in there.

Our local is like that. Sofas, full bar, hot food (pizza, nachos, that sort of thing). Great experience.

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One. Really, really enjoyable and I'm looking forward to Pt II's release in just over a fortnight. Troy Baker's Joker was very good (and very much in the vein of Mark Hammill's portrayal which is no bad thing).

    One of my favourite films.

"City of men" is the name of the tv series with the same characters. Just googled it and there were 4 series. I think I've only seen the first (only 4 episodes) and will have to check up on the other 3.

I didn't know that, thank you for letting me know. I'll have to check that out.

I've heard that Elite Squad and it's sequel Elite Squad: The Enemy Within are very good as well, especially the sequel. I believe it's the same script writer.

I was looking around and nothing streaming wise available. I had the first 2 series but I've not seen the 3rd or 4th. I wonder if it didnt get released outside Brazil. There is also a 2nd film also called City of Men.

Elite Squad was excellent. I didn’t realize there was a sequel, but I’ll definitely find it now. Thanks.

I watched Once upon a Tine in Hollywood recently. Found it very strange, but watchable. Would not be inclined to view it again, as I would with any films that I like.

Con Air - had never watched it. The missus was on call tonight so bought myself a pizza and sat down to watch it. Really enjoyed it. Incredibly cheesy but a very typical American action movie and I really enjoyed it. Nicholas Cage is just really good at those kind of roles.

Slightly cheating as this is something I will watch (on Wednesday). It's good to see Netflix are finally catering for those of us with interest in:
    1. Medieval Korean society and politics.
    2. Zombies.

Ah you probably passed a young Filbert on his way out of Toy Story or something in that case! It’s still a cinema but it was bought by odeon.

Used to get so excited walking up all those stairs to the big screens!

So we’ve just finished watching ET. It’s the first time that my missus has seen it. Seriously, what the ****? 26 years on this earth and she’s never seen it. I must have watched 20 times when I was kid but it was my first viewing in a few years.

Needless to say she was charmed and moved by it.

    A few observations I’d never really considered before;

    - I like the realistic representation of a single parent family

    - The mum is well fit

    - The older brother kind of has to carry the film once Elliot and ET get ill.

    - It’s a U certificate but it’s got kids smoking in it, ET’s grey corpse washed up on a riverbank and the words ‘sh*t’ and ‘penisbreath’

    Seriously mate.

    Jaws? Never seen it.

Raiders of the Lost Arc? Meh.

    Empire Strikes Back? Dull.

I live with a complete and utter ******* philistine. We’re getting married this Thursday…. She cried when ET ****ed off on his quote ‘faberge egg’ earlier and yet she still turns her nose up at the 80’s classics I was brought up as a 90’s child with a movie obsessed parent.

She fell asleep during Die Hard for ****s sake.

I get, I open a bottle of wine and ease back into the sofa and patronisingly say ‘have a pipe at this darlin’ but it’s only because she’s missing out.

A surprisingly good film that never seems to get a mention is "Atonement".

Contains perhaps the best representation of Dunkirk ever made.

I cannot remember the name of the designers of the Odeon cinema interiors across the country perhaps @Bwood_Horn might remember but they created these incredible friezes and decorations that were a wonder in themselves. Most have been lost as these filmhouses have been pulled down but a few are still extant and are now subject to preservation orders as their value is recognized.

They don't make them like this anymore. Remember all the modern crime films you have seen. Jimmy Cagney was the original. For anyone interested HMV have released White Heat and Eureka Entertainment are covering the twenties silent cinema output from Universal Pictures. Unlike most of the modern acting fraternity Cagney was a renaissance man from a poor NY family of Irish stock. He was ever so down to earth despite being a master of his craft partly aided by a fabulous memory and never ever forgot his roots or friends from the time he slipped almost accidentally into acting.

After some spectacular chilling horror films this year. St.Maud and Luz for instance Second Sight are preparing to release Censor.

A modern giallo ? Filtering horror from a psychological point of view, a period piece and a reflection on the culture of censorship at the time of the video nasty claimed by the likes of Mary Whitehouse to inspire copycat behaviour.

The DVD/video fetches enormous prices. The rights are held by Warner Brothers who steadfastly refuse to release the masters for use in any potential blu ray or 4K release. Some of the lost footage was recovered and added to a few closed screenings thanks to Mark Kermode. It's a bit sad and apt following on from Censor that we still cannot freely access Russell's original. The cut version can be watched via certain streaming services.

Oh really? I know CEX are selling the 2012 special edition film currently for £8 as that's where I got my copy. It truly is a fantastic film once you get past George from George and Mildred torturing people! Oliver Reed was so captivating as Grandier!

I am still surprised that Warner Brothers are holding on so tight to those two deleted scenes as whilst they are near the bone I am pretty sure I have seen worse ideas committed to film. *Cough* A Serbian Film *cough* the only reason I can think off is the religious connotations connected to it but if anything those scenes showcase the ridiculousness of the people rather than the church.

Moana. About 87 times now. Kid loves it and it settles him down before bed every night.

I actually quite like it. I can almost quote it word for word now and the songs are pretty catchy.

Nothing to Hide is a very enjoyable French fillum, a remake of an Italian success. The Italian version gets a better rating on IMDB, but isn’t available on streaming in the UK.

The premise is simple, a group of old friends at a dinner party play a game where they have to share all their phone messages/activity that evening.

It’s very well done, sustains the pace, never gets boring and goes in unexpected directions. https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81004099?s=i&trkid=13747225&vlang=en&clip=81016269
