Combination of contractual obligation and consolation prize for those who won't get into the team or in some cases the squad.

We have a **** defence and an FA and manager obsessed with big team golden generation top 6 players.

out in the round of 16 after some boring group games.

media will hype it all up again.
Bookies make a killing, who on earth really sees us as joint favourites when you have:
Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and ofcourse the defensive Italians probably more above us in the pecking order as well.

It’s the same story if the Germans don’t win the Italians will.

it’s been the same for about 30 years, every foreigner knows we are awful at defending.

how long before the pubs are filled with people who have strangely and quickly found an allegiance to one of the other home nations who’ll get further than us

I don’t really follow the other countries, but doesn’t everyone think Germany are poor at the moment?

Yes - think Low has stayed too long and picked poor defenders (by German standards) but then this is Germany so surely they cannot be bad for 2 tournaments in a row.

Another issue for them is they do have Portugal and France in their group...

6-0 up v Latvia though playing a strong side which will give them confidence.

Italy possible dark horses (on the basis they didn’t qualify for the last WC, not historically of course) coming in off a 26 game unbeaten run.

Watching sky sports news and there seems an inordinate amount of numpties coming on saying we have a great chance of wining the Euros. If we do stumble out of the groups as soon as we come up against a decent side we’re going to get smashed.

Germany eventually defeated a poor Latvia team 7-1. It may give them an advantage in that they will play all their group games in Munich.

All the Euros and World Cups tend to do is bring out the worst kind of nationalism in a lot of people (especially the MSM) so I won’t be supporting anybody this coming tournament.

I do hope that everybody here enjoys the coming few weeks though, and we get some great matches to savour.

I'm not so sure. Semi finals in the World Cup. 3rd in the Nations League beating Spain away along the way. Competition for places in the wide defensive positions and wide positions up top. And playing at home for most of it which is big. Modric, who is playing in the same group, sees England as one of the favourites for the tournament. First time in my life (too young to remember 1966) that i think England, with a bit of luck along the way that every team needs including on the injury front, could actually get to a final of a big tournament.

Lost to Belgium twice, Croatia once and drew with Columbia.

The nations league is a glorified friendly tournament.

Come up against France/Germany/Portugal and we’re straight out.

England also beat Belgium at home. And Croatia at home. Being at home is helpful.

We have some bang average players. Rice and Philips will struggle against the likes of Croatia never mind some of the big boys. We have a weak defence. Stones has got a mistake in him, and if Maguire isn’t fit we will struggle. Also don’t think it helps that we don’t seem to have a settled side. Let’s not kid ourselves that the run to the semi-finals of the World Cup was anything more than a lucky draw. We always fail when we come up against a decent side in major tournaments , and this time will be no different. We may just get through the group but as soon as we are drawn against Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal or Germany then its game over

My concern for England is we won’t play to our strengths. We have a lot of excellent forward or attacking midfielders but insist on playing two holding midfielders.
I think we have enough quality to do well but it might be the manager that holds us back

I think the Scotland match will be the hardest as they have hit a bit of form and it will be like a blood and thunder old school cup tie .
Croatia are not the team of old and Czech are not that great anyway .
We will top the group with 7 points IMO

    Not surprised Sterling is playing.

Rashford would be too if he was fully fit.

Playing a right back at left back .. seen that before !

Trippier to start at LB, Walker RB, Mings & Stones CB. Phillips expected with Rice, Mount, Sterling, Foden & Kane

Is apparently the team, would've preferred Shaw at LB and Grealish over Sterling but not too many complaints about it. Big test for Phillips + Rice in midfield.

We won’t win a game and I doubt we will score. Scotland will knock us out. Never been less interested in a football tournament. Genuinely don’t know when we are playing though it seems it's later today ?
The Euro champs were never of much interest anyway but playing the 2020 champs now amid covid and crazy plans like Wales playing Switz in Baku makes it utterly meaningless.

Sterling is 4th choice for me starting behind grealish, sancho or rashford should be starting over Sterling and Henderson in goal.

Other than that the team is as good as it gets. Come on England!

Maguire being unavailable could hold us back. Mings is always an accident waiting to happen.

Trippier ahead of Shaw at LB is just bizarre from Southgate though.

Can’t wait till Southgate is sacked.

I'm not concerned about open expansive football especially early on. Peak in the latter stages that's the name of the game. Portugal had 3 dire draws in their group in Euro 2016 and won the whole thing.
