Since clinching promotion, we are suddenly a massive draw to top talent from across the world. Therefore it is no surprise that we are attempting to get the top level striker we've been needing for a few years now. Ergo, rumours are we are making a move for Joe Pigott on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon. A clear sign of intent from the Pozzos. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/w...ce-first-summer-signing-in-wake-of-promotion/
Fortunately it's the Mirror so probably not true... Mind you cheap young home grown striker to stick in the squad?
Hornetboy1 that made me laugh out loud. Nice one. I hope it wasn’t too taxing for you to think up that joke!
Laughed his head off when we were relegated. Said it meant more than winning jockeys title. Utter b****** !
Doesn't seem a PL-level striker. Seems to have dropped-off in form a lot in the 2nd half of the season as well, with most of his few goals being penalties. It seems as if the club realised their mistake too late with Toney and have since started scrabbling around desperately trying to sign any League One striker with a few goals to their name in the hope of repeating the trick, even if they're not actually anywhere near as good.
If we want a budget bench-fodder striker from League One to take a punt on in the hope they make some kind of short-term impact it should be Vadaine Oliver.
Oliver is a good player but I’d worry about any potential contract talks with him. He’d probably keep asking for more.
Would Jonson Clarke-Harris not be more worth a punt? I mean, none of them are likely to make much of an impact, but JCH has been on fire in L1 for 2 and a half years now rather than Pigott or Oliver who are merely decent L1 strikers
I think Oliver has looked every bit as good as Clarke-Harris, if not perhaps even sharper and more dangerous, while playing for a much worse team. I don't think Pigott has as much about him as the other two. Peterborough would probably want 5mil+ for C-H and may get promoted. I don't think he'd be worth that even if we were in the Champ and he was intended as first choice as I don't think he's all that anyway. It definitely won't be worth that given that in the PL we should only be looking at that kind of player as a 3rd/4th choice striker for occasional 10 minute cameos instead of Gray. Meanwhile, Oliver would probably only be about 1mil and very low wages, which may be worth it to have someone who might be able to pick up scraps if we have to go more direct next season at the end of games.
Just checked and this lad is 27 years old. 27. This has absolutely no logic in it at all now we’ve secured promotion.
Would Pedro score than many in a season in the same league? Who knows, but if the deal is on a free and he fits into our homegrown quota then he may turn out to be a shrewd piece of business. We have a history of overspending on crap so I’m happy to turn the tables and undrspend on quality...
It’s probably the sort of tabloid rubbish that gets printed to make people lap it up and think it must be a done deal.
Apparently available on a free. Will be shipped out on loan with a view to selling at a profit. Nothing to see here
That’s what you’d think. Don’t know why he’d join us at 27 to go straight out on loan with minimal prospects of ever playing for us if that’s the case, rather than just joining a bottom half championship side outright instead.
We don't. Edit: Hang on, I'm going to assess all new forward signings on the Isaac Success scale where the only question that needs to be answered is "will he contribute more than Success?". Have changed my mind, get him in.
Just scored a 97th minute equaliser against relegation rivals Rochdale, that'll put a few extra 0s on the contract
I hear we have been told that Man Utd are interested, and if we are quick we can beat them to this signing as we did with "wonderkid" Oulare.
Looking at terrible League One strikers linked to us, Luke Jephcott has now gone 18 games without scoring. Dodged a bullet not going for him.
Maybe we could get him on loan, as he is exactly the type of player we need up front? Because we could not afford to buy him outright unless we did some sort or player plus cash, maybe even offer them Sarr.
Tammy Abraham is not coming to Watford on loan or permanently. If he leaves Chelsea it will not be to a newly promoted team. Don't even consider it as an option
That’s strange, TVOR said we should be all over him in January. I’m sure he’ll pop on to remind us...
Unfortunately true, they were saying on the radio earlier he might go for as little as £40m. A lot of money sure, but an absolute no brainer as far as what a club like us actually need. The problem is we couldn’t even begin to compete with clubs like West Ham, who have greater financial reach and possibly CL football. Would be a very obvious signing, but a completely impossible one.
Yep, I wasn't keen on him when we were linked: "He's no Toney, that's for sure. Not very quick, doesn't really create goals for himself, not particular good in the air either (despite the occasional headed goal). "Fox in the box" does seem a reasonable description, could be handy, sure, but he is a fairly limited player." http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/luke-jephcott.58043/#post-2958878
