Very loosely linked with this fella along with a host of Premier league clubs. As soon as I saw 15m I knew it was rubbish. https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport.../glen-kamara-transfer-latest-rangers-20362658
Not that we will get him but good job we haven't got ant Czechs. Guess he won't be going to West Ham...
Coufal said he supported the racist. https://twitter.com/GoalscorerC/status/1376612780594319365?s=20?
He says hes an important part of the sqaud but he can't comment on the 'other things'. I think thats a perfectly reasonable and measured response whilst an investigation is still pending Its still an allegation at this stage and you wouldn't expect a teammate to throw him under the bus and label him a racist on national TV until that investigation had been completed. As much as these allegations should be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated, people should also remember the times in recent years when initial accusations were shown to be misunderstandings or unproven - e.g. Rudiger vs Spurs and Gaten Bong vs Jay Rodriguez
I agree there can be cases where the allegation isn't proven to be true, but the player in question covered his mouth to say something to Kamara and his excuse was that he said "You are a f***ing guy"... whereas Kamara said he was called a "f***ing monkey". I think in this one it is pretty obvious there was actual racism. The player's 'excuse' was laughable.
Agreed, it looks bad for the player in question, my point was more that I can understand why someone like Coufal would 'play it safe' with his comments on national TV and I don't think it reflects badly on Coufal at this stage
Really don’t see anything special about him. Said that when we were first linked with him. For £15mil I expect better. Not worth more than £12mil. A realistic fee for him is between £8-10mil.
I don't think he's worth us signing even for that, unless we seem determined to build the most powder-puff midfield in the Premier League next season. We're still desperate for a good ball-winner and Kamara is most definitely not it. He'd only make sense for depth if we're losing Hughes and/or Chalobah, but he's not someone we should be starting without a more destructive midfielder alongside them.
He just got the highest rating for Finland against Russia according to the BBC sports, so price will go up https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51197547
I’m not sure Rangers base their valuations on how BBC Sport think he played in a defeat for his national team in their easiest game on paper.
I watched the game and apart from playing simple 5-10 metre passes did absolutely nothing. Swanned around in the middle of the park and can’t tackle. Definite NO from my view.
I watched the first half and he did absolutely nothing to warrant a 15m price tag. I just cant see what he would offer us. Much better out there for a hell of a lot less.
The majority of Finland's players are from dross leagues like the MLS, Swedish League, or even the Cypriot League! So it's hardly going great shakes.
I've watched a lot of him this season (possibly more than anyone else on here) and he has been excellent. No doubting his quality in the SPL. The question is, can he make the step up like McGinn/Armstrong or will he be a dud when he moves leagues.
Ok can you explain to me what type of midfielder he is? On the limited times I've seen him he's done nothing to really impress me, in fairness I've not really noticed him. 15m sounds outrageous too.
There's not a single player playing in Scotland right now that is worth £15m. Rangers should be grateful if we offer anything over £5m.
Sure. Rangers two fullbacks (Tavernier and Barisic) are the two best fullbacks in Scotland, particularly going forward. Kamara would tend to do the most covering of the midfield 3 to protect when the two full backs quite often get caught up the pitch. Kamara is very good at this and it allows Rangers to utilise two of their best attacking outlets. Kamara is also very useful at being the link between defence and attack - he is very strong in possession and is very good at creating space for himself. He is pretty skilful for someone so capable playing as a defensive midfielder. Most midfielders tend to either fall in to an attack minded of defence minded bracket, but Kamara can do both at ease. He's excellent at breaking up other teams, but also an asset going forward. He is the type of player that may be underappreciated in stats because there will probably be attacking players with better chance creation/key pass stats and defensive players with better interception/tackle stats but it is naive to look at that in isolation when Kamara has a much more balanced game. You can look at all the dashboards and stats you like, but when you haven't actually watched the player regularly, then it is hard to get a picture of how well they could potentially do. There are certainly plenty of high quality players that tend to fall into statistical 'blind-spots'.
Thing is - Scottish fans love to overhype their players. They think if they are doing well in SPL, then that somehow means they must be good enough for the PL. Yet the success stories in that regard in recent years are slim to say the least…. Look at Tavernier for example - his stats are unbelievable this season for a RB. So Rangers fans are saying he’d walk into 75% of the PL sides. But look at his career before getting to one of the Top 2 in a terrible league - poor, poor, poor. He’s average at best. He never got close to the top level of the English game and a few decent seasons at Rangers where he only has to defend at all for a few games a season don’t suddenly mean he’s cracked it. Of course there are likely a handful of players up there who could make the jump to the PL. But they would all be gambles if you ask me so the fee’s should mirror that. An example I’d give is that any half decent Championship player - say Joe Lolley - could go to Rangers or Celtic and have a great season or 2. Then there’s seems to be this belief that he would be ready for the PL and walk into most sides down here. See Charlie Mulgrew, Kris Commons, Kemar Roofe etc. Maybe Glen Kamara has been good for them. But they are deluded if they think he’s worth anywhere near £15m. And we’d be even more deluded to pay it.
To be fair he was 23 when he joined Rangers so clearly hadn't reached his potential. Most Rangers fans I know appreciate that he works so well for them because they can have the ball for the majority of their games, and also appreciate that defensively he has a lot of faults. Probably why he has never been taken to the PL. I think all clubs overestimate their players' abilities so I wouldn't look into that. We do the same for Hughes, Pedro, Sierralta and even Sarr to an extent too. All good players but definitely overestimated by our fans. In recent years, the transfers from Scotland to the PL have been fairly successful (the Championship less so, but I think that is a mixture of poorer scouting and more hopeful punts): Van Dijk, Tierney, Robertson, McGinn, Armstrong, Wanyama.
Anyone that we bring in should improve on the players we have in that position already - Hughes, Chalobah. This boke doesn't. Move on.
He is a massive improvement on Cleverley, Quina and Gosling though as a midfield option. Besides, Chalobah had been hopeless for about 3 years and has had his injury issues in the past. A good few months doesn't mean he will definitely be PL quality.
My guess for the starting 3, if all fit and on form, are Hughes, Chalobah, and Louza. Is he an upgrade on any of those? Otherwise there is no point in filling the club with squad players when we have so many squad player midfielders already. Chalobah has been excellent for months. If that means he isn't PL ready then no one in our squad is PL ready.
But he was also hopeless for years (most on here wanted us to replace him in Jan when the Leicester rumours came around). It will be interesting to see if: He signs a new contract He continues his form of the last couple of months He makes the step up from the Championship (having previously been fairly disappointing in the PL) He can remain fit I'd have Hughes over Kamara (assuming he signs a new deal). Louza I know very little about. Chalobah is where Kamara (or another CM) may well be needed. Anyway, this is all pretty moot as this deal won't happen.
