Said the same back in October

His first touch, awareness, movement and weight of pass are just ridiculous for his age. Best teenager I've ever seen play for the club, Barnes was before my time

Both the shot against the bar against Bristol and the one that led to Sarr's goal at Blackburn were because he shifted the ball half a yard and got a shot away from a standing start. Again, laughable that he is the only striker we have that can do that.

Barnes was ridiculously good too. But after seeing Joao slip into midfield blew me away. Yes he tried things in positions he shouldn't and a couple of sloppy passes but he was and is playing way above his age. He imo has everything needed to be a top professional and hope he's with us for many a year.

Maybe a restructure to get rid of a sell on clause? This way they are guaranteed the money.

It mentioned bonuses. So I doubt the sell on itself would be a bonus.

Nominated for EFL Young POTY London. Deserves to win it. Some sublime skills on display again last night. Threading the eye of the needle and a lovely turn away leaving a defender clutching air. Definitely getting physically stronger as well the way he knocked down a Millers player on the edge of the area and certainly not a foul.

It's the full blown POTY award isn't it? In which case, Toney has that wrapped up.

It’s the London POTY award, by the Evening Standard, as opposed to the main EFL one. Reckon Toney has both sewn up, although I suppose Buendia could be in with a shout for the latter. I like JP a lot, and obviously this has been a breakout season for him, but I’m a bit surprised that if our attackers (and these sorts of awards always do seem to go to attacking players) it’s him and not Sarr nominated.

London POTY is just for players in and around London I presumed

Yes of course. I was talking about how Toney was probably a lock for the main EFL one too. But Buendia probably the main other competitor.

No age limit. This one is London EFL POTY. Jobi McAnuff nominated too (age 39!)

Lucky to not get a red, think he will be retrospectively suspended.

Saves him being kicked at Luton and Gray might be up for that one..

    (Or Troy..)

Classic case of pundits talking something of nothing into a retrospective ban with their need to produce headlines. As with all these things they look far worse in slow mo than in real time.

I think it’ll be a 4 game ban if he’s suspended as he’s already had one red card this season. So basically season over for Joao if the FA go for the bait.

Not convinced by JP. I think he is really lacking in a few ways.

still young so time in his side but he will struggle big time in Premiership if that is our intention of him being our no.1 striker

Even at his best this season he's not been super prolific. A wonderful talent, I actually think he'd be better off staying in the Championship next season albeit that avenue doesn't look likely at the moment

He needs a lot of nurturing for sure, and right now I think the central striker role is too big for him. He's playing it because he's the best of a poor bunch. I see him as wide on the left being his best position. He doesn't look like scoring goals and doesn't have the instinct as a predatory goal scorer.

If we go up, the central striking position will need a major overhaul and investment. If that doesn't happen, we'll probably find ourselves back in the Championship pretty quickly.

The good thing about him is that he is versatile, I'm sure he could do a job on the wing or as a #10 in the Prem, but we would desperately need a genuine goalscorer in the Prem

At his age it is all about development physically, tactically, mentally... Figuring out what works and what doesn't. I think he's doing very well. Sarr is four years older than him and is only just starting to realise his enormous potential.

I know Sema is not a central striker, but he has scored a few goals recently and from a central position. Therefore maybe we could give him a go down the middle and switch Pedro to his preferred wide left position.

I think it could be worth a try as we can always bring on Zinc down the left if it is not working.

  30. Knight GT

    Knight GT Predictor extraordinaire 2013/14

You are obsessed with shoehorning players in to positions they don’t play. Clevs has four goals so shall we play him up front? You can’t suddenly turn a wide midfielder in to a striker just because he has bagged a couple of goals

If I were ever going to 'shoehorn' Sema into any position it would have been the midfield, but now we don't have any need for that with La Roca and Gosling on the bench

#WatfordFC latest Received confirmation from FA that Joao Pedro won’t face any retrospective action following Reading game (incident with Tom Holmes) as was seen by match officials at the time and free kick given.

Me too but I hope that if he is selected v ***** he is made aware of the fact that the opposition will be targeting him not just physically but verbally too.
He could be a liability I fear.

Maybe a bit lucky seeing as today a Man U player pulled up for a foul after brushing the fact of a Spurs player (Son) before the latter scored.

To his credit the Reading player didn't start screaming and rolling around which probably helped!

And no VAR in the ref's ear either.
