I’ve not said it’s impossible, I’m saying it’s just highly unlikely, and if the long and short of it is that you pretty much agree with that then I have no idea why you’re making the case so strongly over and over again.

Are we mathematically safe for the playoffs? After today’s results and reading this forum just want to check - if we get 0 points more will we still finish 6th or above?

  3. Yes.

  4. We were 92% for promotion on 538 last night, dropped to 88%.

I had the three of us all to draw this weekend, and while on the face of it, that would have been better taking into account goal difference, I'd have taken these results. Ultimately I think these results show the importance of getting off to a good start, do that and you give yourself a platform for the second half, go in at half-time at 0-0 and you could find yourself in a pickle

It makes it more exciting. Had Brentford and Swansea lost today then it would be over. Promotion is 90% likely, and we will only have ourselves to blame if we blow it. Each game becomes bigger. Beat Scum and we are surely there, as too many results would have to go against us. Lose and suddenly doubts creep in and Brentford get a real boost. Even if we do slip we are more than capable of beating Swansea / Brentford, but it will make it very nervy if it goes to the last couple of games. I just can’t think the players will take their foot of the gas, and if we keep playing as we are, it shouldn’t go to the last 2 games and promotion should be secured against Millwall

Great. I agree it’s unlikely but possible. So why waste time constantly setting out an unlikely scenario over and over? Not knocking you but I can see what Nath’s getting at when he asks if you’re trolling.

I say that as someone who made a heap from the bookies on us being relegated last year because it was obvious their odds didn’t price in our rancid performances and last two fixtures. I don’t get that vibe this season.

Not sure they play that well against sides like Millwall & Cardiff....their CBs don’t always handle aerial bombardments that well.

I think the thing to remember is that Brentford, Swansea and Barnsley can’t afford to lose any games if they want to go up automatically , we still have a little leeway , if we get 8 points out of 5 games we are bound to go up , if we get 10 points we would definitely go up

Fact remains Brentford would just have to beat us and drop 3 points less over remaining games.
Maybe they will lose to Muff. Maybe we will lose to Norwich. Maybe we will drop points at Luton or at home to Swansea. Who knows but the above statement is correct.

I would imagine next Saturday’s 3pm matches will be delayed slightly, maybe until 3.15pm?

So before we meet Brentford, we play our hated rivals but in an empty stadium which negates any advantage they might have had. We then play Norwich, who by then should be already promoted and possibly not quite as focussed. And then a Millwall side who looked poor today and who we are well capable of beating at ours.

I doubt there will be anything riding on the Brentford match, but if there is avoiding defeat there should suffice.

The bottom line is the two sides with the most points get promoted. If it’s us, we deserve to go up. If we have a slump in form now and get caught, then we don’t deserve automatic. Tables don’t lie. But I’m sure we won’t.

Looking at the league table now, if I'd have been offered this position three short months ago I'd have bitten your whole arm off for it.

You say that but Preston come and tried to play attacking football and they were not good enough and subsequently just left too many spaces and played into Brentford's hands, Cardiff and possibly Milwall will be happy to sit in and I agree with you that Cardiff could be tricky for Brentford as they are the type of side that will cause them problems, they are a big physical side that won't allow space for the break and their strength is putting balls in the box which is Brentford's weakness. I am expecting Brentford to win this but it could be interesting.

It’s a shame that there is not an option to get promoted, get the PL cash and stay in the championship. I have enjoyed this season so much more. There is so much money flying around in the PL, then it will surely be difficult for us to win more than 5 games if we get promoted. I just don’t see the Pozzo’s gambling millions to remain in the PL

Let's also put into prospective who they played today. Preston had nothing to play for and had no reason to go at Brentford. They lost because Brentford have a quality side who finally took their chances. Swansea played Millwall, who's very slender
playoff chances must be all but dead now. Again, nothing to really gain and so inconsistent it makes us look like Barcelona. Swansea and Brentford will have tougher games, and teams that will want to beat them to make sure they too make the top six. We probably won't remain unbeaten for the rest of the season either, but we so many have said, it's still and is in our hands. If we don't lose between now and Swansea we're up, doesn't matter how many goals either of them score. We can probably afford one loss as well, but I cannot see us chucking all the hard work away. Xisco has said he is taking it one game at a time. We should think like that too.

I think we will beat Luton, lose to Norwich, beat Millwall this will put us on 88 points

If Brentford win there games not impossible
Millwall H, Cardiff H, Bournemouth A, Rotherham H they will be on 85 points.
So we play with a possible 3 point gap at there gaff. So draw or win we are up. We absolutely need to win 2 out of next 3. If Brentford drop a couple of points anywhere we should be up I think.

  21. Norwich tonked Huddersfield 7-0 then just scraped past Derby who should have equalised at the death.

Only mild concern is that both results came about due to a formation change and we know how you can go on a good run when you find the right style.

Still very much in our hands and emphasises the importance of last night's win.

Yeah Norwich are really not that good. Can’t wait to play them. Going to be glorious as we go 2 points behind with 3 games left.

True, although I think the bigger factor was the early goal. One of those days as well when everything goes in too, they haven't had that recently and they probably won't in future games

I think you're making the mistake of imagining that I give a single solitary... jot, about whether we deserve to get promoted or not. I just want it. If every other team is placed into administration just before game week 46, that's fine by me ;)

This does absolutely fly in the face of everything that happened last time we got promoted, but sure, it's theoretically possible.

If we pick up only one point between now and the Brentford match, we will still go up if we beat both Brentford and Swansea in the final two games, even if they win all their other games.

No matter what’s been said on here, Brentford and Swansea are decent sides and were always going to have an improvement in form. Brentford especially are more than capable of going on a winning run but we just need to hold our nerve. We need 10 points to be certain and that’s what we need to concentrate on. We get that and it doesn’t matter what anybody else does. I’m actually happy that Norwich won as it means they are pretty much there for promotion and winning the league meaning we can concentrate on one thing, winning games knowing full well that if we do that we are up.

We only need 7 points, as long as those two wins come against Brentford and Swansea.

Another way of looking at it is Norwich’s next two games are Muff and us, if they lose both, we could be two points behind with three to play.

As good as Muff have been as of late, I cannot see them getting anything out of Norwich. They will go full steam and probably win at a canter - especially at Carrow Road. Let's just hope Muff give us a boost by stuffing Brentford after.

Definitely! If we lose/draw against Luton and Millwall, I wouldn't be very confident of beating Brentford and Swansea!

We're in a fantastic position, in great form and it is entirely in our own hands. Right now that's all that really matters.
