Yep, I'm trying to temper my expectations, but I think we basically need to win one more game and not lose to Brentford and we're up. I have a feeling we'll lose on Friday and people on here will lose their minds.

A lot of the comments on their forum are about Toney either consistently needlessly fouling opposition players out of frustration and therefore wasting time/opportunities, being totally isolated from the midfield as a consequence of Frank's formation and personnel choices, or taking frustrated pot shots from anywhere to no avail. They also think that his existence in their team has encouraged them to play worse football than they did in previous seasons when their striker was Watkins or Maupay, who are obviously both a very different and far more active/mobile kind of attacking player.

Looks like Derbys takeovers going through. Their prospective new owner has trouble written all over him, however I'm sure he'll fly through the fit and proper test.

3 wins and a draw with Brentford and we’re up currently.

    Let’s get friday done first.

No wonder that Toney is frustrated; we all knew he had his heart set on being a hornet.

Over 30 years I've been supporting Watford now.
I can't recall being in this kind of position late in the season. Closest to that was the 97-98 season.
Norwich will go up deservedly and I hope they have the same ambition next season, surprised me how poor they were in 19-20. Very good for them that the affable Farke stayed on.
In other seasons we would have been champions. Still achievable for us however.
The play offs are another way to get promoted. Reading (The Biscuitmen I call them) on Friday is a massive test for us. They need the points and they will be looking to attack us. They aren't Sheff W or Boro (Zinc said that they were boring and I agree) that's for sure.
Muff and Barnsley are looking good at a critical time. It's just a battle for the play-offs for those teams below us. Extra pressure for Reading at least.
It's exciting for us and our teamwork, spirit, quality and togetherness will see us deservedly promoted.
Very proud of our team and proud of being a Watford fan

It would make a lot of sense for Gino/Scott to talk to ex players in the summer and try to get to the bottom of this. It does seem that we have now stumbled upon a solution in Troy's absence with a lot of new leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch who are committed to the team rather than themselves and who are willing to fight for the club.

After a couple of years of negativity it does feel as though it is becoming a bit more like the Watford we know and love...in no small part due to some of the most disruptive players in the squad now having been moved on.

For the record, with 6 games left in 1998 we were 11 points clear of Grimsby in 3rd place, who had a game in hand.

Helps we have won 11 out of the last 13! Positive results lead to positive players lead to positive fans. I do think the majority of players do seem motivated and some of those actually look happy to be here but, again, a good run does amplify this.

Can’t deny the whole team does seem to have a degree of harmony seemingly missing for some time which has undoubtedly contributed to such a run.

On the pitch, yes. Off the pitch, no difference.

One player being sold made a huge difference and helped massively.

I do wonder what Gino will do should we achieve the probable promotion....

Reward Xisco for getting us up with a longer deal? Hire someone to help him? Or dump him on the scrapheap and try and repeat the trick like last time around of getting a bigger name in to keep us up...?

Not a situation I envy as its not a decision I'd like to make. I'd like to see a degree of faith shown in Xisco but I have serious reservations whether he's good enough for the PL and think there's an element to it that Gino will think he's done what he was brought in to do and now they can part amicably. I just don't think Gino will be able to resist making a change...

I wouldn't be unsurprised to see us make a play for Lampard.

He'll be looking to rebuild his reputation next season but I think it's unlikely a bigger club would take him on, he wouldn't have to relocate, and he'd give us some recognition and pull.

Xisco has improved is his time with us, his in game decisions seem to be getting better so I wouldn't be surprised if they kept him on. It might be more suitable to bring in some experience to work alongside him rather than replace him altogether.

Saw Eddie Howe say he has 'several offers' on the table and will decide in the summer. Wouldn't mind betting we have put feelers out. Benitez?

Reids was never a fan. Always said he was incredibly fortunate at Derby and shown to be very limited at Chelsea.

Agree with the bit in bold - but strongly disagree with the bit in italics.

He's made 1 or 2 obvious subs among a ton of baffling ones - but it seems a case of a stopped clock being right twice a day. I still worry massively about his in-game management. But he deserves praise for the overall results, of that there's no doubt.

There is definitely room for further improvement but I do see progression in what he is doing. Still a couple of decisions that have me scratching my head but if he keeps improving he might have a shot at next season.

Yeah, apologies. thats my fault for asking the question here as I though that Xisco thread was the original one about him in general and didn't realise someone had started a new one about this topic as it wasn't in the title!
