What about Jarrod Bowen? 7 goals and 4 assists. Not a bucketload at this stage of the season granted, but I imagine he offers more to the team than just that - West Ham like us are a team without a prolific striker but share the goals around a lot of players.

It's really frustrating to look at them and Villa after they were down at the bottom with us and think it could have been us up there with one and in place of the other.

Forgot about Vardy . He’s probably the only top Championship striker who s gone into a higher level , although in reference to my argument he was never sold to a EPL club . I doubt any club other than smaller EPL club would have bought him fro Leicester if they didn’t go up that season.

And Sorry I should have stated Scum 2 or Scum Nou.

Forget the permutations, we just need to concentrate on Reading for now and that's it.

The fact we're going up is anything but meh.

With the ongoing impact of Covid, getting back on the Premier League teat was the only thing that mattered this year.

Winning the title would have been nice, but it pales in comparison to the importance of the cash injection going up guarantees.

So very Watford to get relegated during the worst possible season for it....

I said months ago that it was probably the best time to go down to bounce back as a lot of EFL clubs have tightened their belts.

I think for the next few years there will be a lot more relegated clubs bounce back immediately.

Bournemouth v Brentford looks like a stonking game.

Bournemouth are performing again will need the win to secure play off spot. Brentford are only 5 points ahead. Whilst Muff wont be catching us I cant help feeling they will put us up. What do Brentford do risk losing or take a point to secure play offs. They lose to Muff they then have a game against Rotherham midweek and then welcome us to them. Stick or twist do they go all out to win or play sensible.

I think there manager and players know to push hard for Automatic and fail will derail a play off chance.

I’ve said in other posts we will start to see the same teams bounce back and forth. Johnson the ex Bristol city boss quoted a few year back, if you don’t reach the prem in next 5 years it will get harder. The financial gap is just getting bigger.

Barnsley to go up in the play offs. Daryl Dike looks an absolute beast. Terrific player.

He’s only on loan as well. If they don’t go up, hopefully we go in for him. Barnsley loaned him with an option to buy at $20mil so about £14.5mil. At 20 years old, he would be worth it.

Selfishly I hope Barnsley don’t go up for that reason. However I would rather them than Bmuff.

You’re wider point is kind of irrelevant, it’s only the very last sentence that matters.

Watkins and Benrhama went for pretty much £30m last season so Toney will go for at least £30m when he’s sold.

Whether he’s actually up to the standard of the premier league, or indeed whether any of the ones you’ve listed are is irrelevant, that’s their going rate and that’s what clubs have been prepared to pay for them. £30m isn’t even a lot in relative terms. If they were proven quality at PL level they’d be double or more.

The top clubs will be in for the Hallands at £100m+ it will be the villas etc taking the £30m punts on championship players.

There’s part of me that is glad we probably won’t win the league as it is behind closed doors.

I suppose it does show with some organisation and motivation/momentum teams like us can dominate and even Bournemouth have improved in recent weeks.

But we certainly haven’t had it all our own way - maybe down to the tactics/formation and style of us and other teams which have hampered us at times.

Gray scored 9 goals in his one PL season for Burnley, but Sam Vokes was top scorer with 10.

Its been well over 20 years since that pond was safe for entering. Probably wasnt safe in 1999. God knows the levels of needles, piss, puke and rust that resides within. You'd be better off swimming in the sewers.

I believe a dip in the pond is seen as an alternative to the vaccine. 97% effective but very prone to clots. Boosters only required every 6 years.

Messed this up after a few drinks last night. Maximum Barnsley and Bournemouth can get to is 86 points.

To go up 2nd without a title and then lose more than we win every season until we inevitably come back down again.

It's a highly pessimistic view sure, it's just me falling out of love with football a bit supporting a mid table team and realising what the ceiling is.

    Just thinking...

IF fans are allowed back in fully at the start of next season (I don’t expect they will be), it could very well be a case that the season starts and the only thing that’s changed is Sheff United in the Championship instead of Leeds. The 3 teams that went down could very well come straight back up and 2 of the 3 that went up look like coming back down.

We will have shed ourselves of the charlatans in the squad by and large and be right back where we started at the beginning of the pandemic - in better shape even (not financially of course) as we won’t be in relegation trouble or a load of unmotivated players on huge wages.

Don't worry the Football Computer will make you feel even better when it churns out the first four fixtures:

    Man City A
    Chelsea H
    Liverpool A

While I agree with the wider point that Ivic had to go, it could also be looked at with the view that he steered us through the period of having a very uncertain squad, made us defensively sound and gave the team the stable base for Xisco to work forward from.

While their was so much uncertainty around at the beginning of the season, I think Ivic boringly imbedding us in the Top 6 was more vital than we credit him for and we shouldn’t just assume we would have walked the league if we’d set up like we are now from the offset.

Brighton is my guess. They’ve got the money and are a decent striker away from being a a very good side IMO.

I wouldn’t rule us totally out though - especially if Sarr were to leave.

Valid point. Stopped the chaos, implemented a sound base and added some discipline. A decent base for Xisco to take over.

Get them out of the way early...

    ;)

We didn't look like a team with top quality players at the start of the season who should be dominating games but was that just down to the tactics/personal available or the manager just not being very popular it seems so the players weren't quite putting in the effort they do now?

But our defence has always generally been reliable even if we haven't got the best out of our attack particularly in the first half of the season because there was no Hughes/PZ or a fully motivated Sarr plus the obvious issues with the strikers.

Brentford have enough in the tank to make the play-offs. I think Swansea are the ones tanking. They've been found out and the only reason their run lasted so long was due to some very suspect refereeing decisions in their favour. Despite having the easiest run-in their confidence and team spirit must be rock bottom!
